A wonderful, fat, satisfying novel, following the fortunes of three main characters on 2 continents (Asia and South America), allowing their intertwining stories to reveal their connections subtly. The last 100 page section was such a page-turner, raced through in my eagerness to see how the stories were resolved!

(note to scotsbookie, can you please change the author name to Maas not Haas, only the originating registerer is allowed to change these details - cheers!)

Offering this excellent book on a ring...

RELEASE NOTES:

Giving to Katisha50 today to start the ring!

Journal Entry 7 by Katisha50 from Birmingham, West Midlands United Kingdom on Sunday, January 29, 2006
Thanks, LyzzyBee! Should start it sometime next week, and finish on the plane to JFK.

Journal Entry 8 by Katisha50 from Birmingham, West Midlands United Kingdom on Thursday, February 9, 2006
Actually finished it a few days ago - so good I couldn't put it down. Had to keep concentrating to be sure which person I was reading about, and the parentage of some of the characters really kept me guessing. There is a glossary at the back of the book, which I didn't find until some way through the book.
Taking it to New York next week to pass to the next in the ring, stacyinthecity.

Journal Entry 9 by stacyinthecity on Friday, February 17, 2006
I received this book today from Katisha50 in Grand Central terminal in NYC! How exciting that this book has come so far! I just finished my previous book yesterday, I'll be able to start this one immediately! I'm looking forward to it!

Journal Entry 10 by stacyinthecity on Tuesday, March 14, 2006
This was a wonderful, beautiful book. The descriptions were so rich, and the characters fully developed, flaws and all. It is a love story fueled by tragedy and spanning generations. This book has inspired me and it has taught me much about that period of India's history.

I highly recommend this book.

It is on its way to the next person on the list. Unfortunately, while I was recently in that part of the country for a trip, I was not able to pass it on in person as our time constraints were tighter than I thought and I did not have enough internet access to even contact the next person to see if she was available for an in person transfer.

The book is here, am just starting. Thanks!

Journal Entry 12 by pammykn from Decatur, Alabama USA on Sunday, April 16, 2006
Took me a bit to get into the momentum of this one. The alternating chapters of the 3 main characters were too many quick starts & stops. BUT at around the 300 page mark -- the pages flew. Once the characters finally linked & their stories were heavily enmeshed I was engrossed in the story. Thanks so much for sharing. Have contacted Junebug31 & will mail out as soon as I get the addy.

Received today in the midst of moving madness. It is on top of Mt TBR.

Journal Entry 15 by amberC from Darwin, Northern Territory Australia on Friday, July 28, 2006
I enjoyed the different characters experiences and attitudes, the way the seperate threads gradually came together nad kept me guessing all the way about just how these peoples stories would come together. The twists at the end just as I thought I had it worked out added to the story.

Thanks for sharing LYzzyBee.

To be posted to CaterinaAnna on Monday.

Arrived on Wednesday, but not journalled because I had just about time to rip it open before heading out to the Birmingham Literary festival launch & quiz. Then I had a migrane the next day, so no books or computers. Today was therefore recovery day (yes, it was one of those ones - no food, fake sleep)so I thought I'd sneak a peek while I had a drink before starting on some sitting down type work at home ...

errr... I've finished it and can add little to the comments already made, mostly because I now really need to get the sleep I should have been getting during today!

Off to angellica as soon as ...

Sorry Lyzzybee - I haven't had much time to read recently due to a string of catastrophies so I have posted this on to Anglersrest unread.

Thanks for letting me share in this book.

Sorry for the delay :(

Journal Entry 20 by AnglersRest from Teignmouth, Devon United Kingdom on Thursday, January 11, 2007
This arrived today, along with another bookring, so my ring pile totals 8. Will be a few weeks before this is moving again.

Journal Entry 21 by AnglersRest from Teignmouth, Devon United Kingdom on Tuesday, February 6, 2007
I spotted this book loitering at the bottom of my work bag, surprised as was sure that I had posted this.
A gentle novel, where the main three characters are bought to live across the decades.
In the post back to LyzzyBee in the next day or so.

Journal Entry 22 by LyzzyBee from Birmingham, West Midlands United Kingdom on Thursday, February 22, 2007
Hooray! it's made it home again! Thanks to all the ring participants, and to Julie/Anglersrest for the postcard of Hay-on-Wye, and someone mysterious for the teabags!

Oh - it came to me as a RABCK for starting my new Library job, and arrived back home from its ring on the first day of my secondment to Stratford!

It's going into the Permanent Collection, pending getting a non BC copy, but always available for loan or ring.

Journal Entry 23 by LyzzyBee from Birmingham, West Midlands United Kingdom on Friday, August 31, 2007
Managed to score a copy for my Permanent Collection in one of the many charity shops of Kings Heath, so this is now going to be made available again. I will put it in an OBCZ or pass it to someone who requests it, though, as it's been round so many people!
