4 journalers for this copy...
Hawthorne is one of America's greatest writers. His books are classics by design, not just by age. Here, the story of Hester Prynne. Picked this copy up at a nearby garage sale today. It is definitely very old and worn. A little TLC and this book will be as good as new and ready to roll.
Happy reading to the finder!

This book has been requested and is now reserved for HoserLauren. I will be mailing it off as soon as my paycheck comes in.
October 4, 2005 Lauren is right! I accidentally used the same BCID for 2 copies of the same book. I have apologized and have messaged her about making corrections. To correct the problem I registered The Scarlet Letter again and PMed her the BCID. Here is the link to the new BCID and Journal which is the one now in her possession.

I received this book in the mail today. I had put it on my wish list because I've wanted to read some more classics.
This book is much smaller (in terms of length and width) than books you see every day. Something about this size makes me feel like I should be very gentle with it. It's obvious that the book has had a lot of use, and it's going to get more use with me!

Where are my manners?
Thank you very much for granting my wish and sending this to me!

Arrived today along with "To Sir, with Love." Thanks a lot! :)
Hrrrmmmm, I still have this book.
Perhaps duplicate BCIDs?

Whether you've read this book or not, chances are you know what the story is about. Hester Prynne wears a scarlet letter on her chest as punishment for Adultery. She was sent over to New England before her husband, had an affair with an unknown member of society, and ended up with child. She wears the letter on her chest every day and her daughter, Pearl, sees this as normal.
The book is well written and, I'm sure, an English teacher's dream. Never having done that well in English class myself, I can't say I really enjoyed it. I found it incredibly dry in places and sometimes wished Hawthorne would stop babbling and just get to the point already. Point in case, Hawthorne wrote a 46 page introduction to the novel, for a 275 page book!
People say this is a novel of everlasting love but I didn't see it that way. How could two people that love each other so much go seven years without talking to each other, regardless of their circumstances?
Needless to say, this is not my favourite book in the world and I don't think I'll pick up any Hawthorne books in the future.
