Thanks a lot for the book, Decembermum! It arrived today and I am looking forward to reading it soon! Please let me know which book you want to have... I still haven't found my copy of "Lucy Sullivan is getting married" so I hope you will find something else on my shelf and in the meantime I will keep looking and asking around for "Lucy Sullivan", I think I lent it to a friend...

Journal Entry 6 by TheWhiteLion from London , Greater London United Kingdom on Thursday, December 01, 2005
What a good read - I loved "Morality for Beautiful Girls". This is Alexander McCall Smith's 3rd book in the series about the life of Precious Ramotswe, Botswana's first lady detective. After previously reading "The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency", I was very keen to read the rest of the series. For me, the third book is even better than the first. I can quite associate with the characters and the background of the book, having spent the first 28 years of my life in southern Africa. I really enjoyed the way the stories unfolded in the book. It feels like you're sitting around a campfire somewhere in Africa, and someone is telling the story of Precious Ramotswe. I loved that "Morality for Beautiful Girls" carried a deeper message as well, in addition to telling the detective stories. In spite of its title, "Morality for Beautiful Girls" does not focus on morality lessons for beautiful girls, but instead tries to teach some morality to all readers of the book. It's not prescriptive, but leaves you wondering about what lessons you can learn from Precious' stories. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the ending - it was too soon, and too abrupt. The book is an easy read, quite humorous, and I am now really looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series! Thank you to allbooked up for organising this bookray. Mailed the book to quizgirl on 2 Nov.

Arrived yesterday, looks as though it got delivered to the wrong house, but it's here now. It won't take long to read, in fact I'm on page 80 already! Just as easy and entertaining to read as others in this series.

Sorry about the delay with this. It was a very easy, quick read which then got lost in a pile of other books. However it is now on its way to Spiderchic after charlieferret declined because she has been given a copy by a friend.

Well this was a very quick read and have finished it already. I think this is the most enjoyable of the series so far, but have to agree the ending was a little abrupt. Shall PM house-elf for their address. Thank you for sharing.

I really enjoyed this book, and it is my favorite of the series so far. I found the 'cases' they investigated to be amusing and interesting and the side story about MR. JLB Matekoni engaging. The ending made me look forward to the next book. I'll be sending it on to the next ring participant tomorrow. Thanks Allbookedup for sending this out for us all to read.

An enjoyable, easy read, and a very friendly introduction to Mr McCall Smith, despite being the third in the series. I enjoyed entering into the homespun simplicity of Mma Ramotswe's world. I have to agree with TheWhiteLion, however - the ending was certainly very abrupt. And the repetitive typing of "africa" confused me. Is it a McCall Smith trademark? Anyway, thank you to allbookedup for sharing, and everyone else for sending on. I'll keep it moving when I have the next address. ETA: this book stopped with me as the last two readers couldn't be found or weren't interested anymore. Slated for release in an appropriate place.
