From Publishers Weekly
First novels this funny and self-assured come along rarely; dialogue this astute and raunchy is equally unusual. The gutsy heroine introduced here is Stephanie Plum of Trenton, N.J., a recently laid-off lingerie buyer who has no job, no car and no furniture. She does have a hamster, a deranged grandmother, two caring parents and several pairs of biking shorts and sports bras. Finding work with her cousin Vinnie, she becomes a bond hunter and scrounges money enough to buy a gun, a Chevy Nova and some Mace. Her first assignment is to locate a cop accused of murder. Joe Morelli grew up in Stephanie's neighborhood. Possessed of legendary charm, he relieved Stephanie of her virginity when she was 16 (she later ran over him with a car). In her search, Stephanie catches her prey, loses him and grills a psychotic prizefighter, the employer of the man Morelli shot. She steals Morelli's car and then installs an alarm so he can't steal it back. Resourceful and tough, Stephanie has less difficulty finding her man than deciding what she wants to do with him once she's got him. While the link between the fighter and the cop isn't clear until too late in the plot, Evanovich's debut is a delightful romp and Stephanie flaunts a rough-edged appeal. Mystery Guild alternate; author tour; film rights optioned to Tri-Star.

Very funny, fast-paced story. I finally got my hands on the whole Stephanie Plum series so I'm working my way through them little by little. Saving this one for a coworker who I think will enjoy it.

lol -- your release notes made me chuckle. Thank you for the RABCK and also for the craft supplies. I will comment on the book once I read it and then pass it on to a new reader. Happy Holidays.

Dec 29 ~ This was the second Stephanie Plum book that I read -- do you really have to read them in order???!! -- nope! --- I enjoyed this one as much as the previous one that I have read. These books make me laugh at loud and I then have my husband wanting me to read to him. My favorite character has to be Grandma Mazur - what a hoot she is. I am glad that I have found Janet Evanovich as she has become another one of my favorite authors.

This book had me laughing from the first page. Trenton isn't that far away, and I have been there, but that could be any small city in the region. Including the town nearest me. Anyway, it was hilarious. Some of the violence was a bit much for my taste, but those sections were brief. Looking forward to the next one.

Will post this out on my next trip to the p.o.

Thanks for sharing :)

Great read~ I'm so glad I FINALLY read an Evanovich~ of course now I'll have to read the rest of the series... I was expecting it to be fast and funny, which it was. I wasn't expecting how violent and rough it was at times~ poor Lula! I was pretty scared for Stephanie at some points and wished she was a bit more cautious... The sexy tone and humor were great, though, and Stephanie's family was entertaining; I'm looking forward to seeing more of them in the later novels.

Thanks for sharing!

What a wise woman Mrs. Evanovich must be... LOL

I tremendoulusly enjoyed this book; thanks so much for sharing! I'm now looking forward to read more about Stephanie, Morelli and Ranger. Awesome fast-paced, fun and entertaining read!

What a great book! I zapped through this one in a couple of days. I was very relieved that I enjoyed it, because I'd been disappointed by Manhunt, but Stephanie is my kind of heroine - bright, brave but not super-human. I loved her interactions with Morelli - great fun! - and I hope that we see a lot more of Grandma Mazur and especially the way that her son in law reacts to her :-)

Thank you so much, snowy652 for sharing. The book is on its way to Xeyra today.

I finished reading this book during my vacation but only now had the opportunity to make a journal entry. I liked it. I thought it was fun and light and fast-paced. I read it in two afternoons on the beach. It was my first book by this author and after hearing so much about this series, I was really excited about reading this one. I liked it very much. A captivating, page-turner read that grabbed me from the start. Having a great heroine makes this book one hell of a read.

I'll try to pass this one to the next BCer as soon as possible.

Got the books last Wednesday at the office. But then I was out for the rest of the week after my first Yoga session. I shall be reading this first since I am between books. To add, I am so happy to be part of a well traveled book.

Jan 23 - I love how the book starts:
There are some men who enter a woman's life and screw it up forever. Joseph Morelli did this to me - not forever, but periodically.

It gave a nice touch to the maybe lasting relationship in fiction. I saw that she already published her tenth installment. I love the way how she pairs Stephanie and Morelli - from way back to school. As per this quote from the book:
When the manhunt is over I'd miss the teasing and the late-night companionship. It was true that Morelli still touched a nerve every now and then, but there was a new feeling of partnership that transcended most of my earlier anger.

At first, I did not quite like the book. I thought it was very amateurish, having read John Sandford among others. But I enjoyed the chemistry between the two towards the end. I wonder how it will turn out later - but then again, I got the second book together in the package. Unfortunately, this book is going solo to the next member in the ring. Among the characters that I enjoy is Ranger, and agree that Grandma Mazur is on top too.
