Summerland
4 journalers for this copy...
I bought this in Brisbane at Borders 3 for 2 sale. Of course, I couldn't go to a bookcrossing convention without buying more books. Onto Mt TBR it goes.
18 months after purchasing this, I finally had a go at reading it. I got to my requisite 100 pages before giving up - too fantastical for me. The storyline is about baseball and a young boy Ethan who is selected to save the Summerlands and the little people.
Caught at meetup - we'll see if our usual pattern of 'megan likes it, so I won't ... and vice versa' continues with this one!
In the meantime... onto the towering Mt TBR!

Finally got around to moving this one from 'to be read' to 'read'!!!
And strangely enough, I didn't particularly enjoy this one, despite believing it would appeal - there goes our system, megan!
Chabon's fantasy world was, for me, too enmeshed in the baseball theme - perhaps it would appeal to American readers more - and the mishmash of American Indian and Norse mythology just didn't grab me. Chabon is a terrific writer, but this one was a 'miss' for me.
I'm sending this one on to RockDg9 as part of a BookObsessed relay - hopefully she'll enjoy it more than we did!

Thanks Imn60!
American fairytale of Ethan Feld, an 11-year-old baseball player, who is recruited by a group of mythical creatures to complete a quest to save the multiverse. He meets werefolk, giants, faeries, sasquatch, and goblins along the way.
This is an enjoyable fantasy for young people and adults. It has a few dark themes, but is still appropriate for children. It feels like the author has added every mythical creature he could think of! There are a lot of baseball references in the book, which I didn't understand; it does not distract from the story. As well as being a work of fantasy, there are sci-fi elements to the story, such as multiple universes, physics, and a rather cute Saab-Zeppelin.

Recieved last week. Thanks for sending!
This was an easy and enjoyable read, though I didn't feel like I came away from the book with anything more than a pleasant way to pass the time. And there's nothing wrong with that - I just feel Chabon was aiming for something more.
