Synopsis from Amazon.co.uk

It is the last, bitter days of World War II and the British Raj in India is crumbling. Ensconced in the Indian Hill Station of Pankot are the English wives, mothers, daughters and widows of the officers embroiled in the ongoing conflict. With their old beliefs and assumptions under increasingly virulent attack, all eyes are upon Captain Merrick and the British military to protect them in this troubled time. But Merrick, though outwardly a consummate professional, is brutal and corrupt, and not even his machinations can stop the change that is swiftly and inevitably approaching, change which is increasingly undermining the old myth of British invincibility...

I am a young single Mum with two very diverse but vastly different children. On Sunday the 3rd July we made an impromptu journey from northern suburbia into Southbank to catch a cheap movie. We arrived relatively early in order to find a car park and wander around a while before catching a flick.
Cannot even begin to explain what happened that afternoon, only to say the three of us had some kind of weird yet symbolic transient bonding session.
Which leads me to the book. There was a brief but quite strong willed discussion between the kids and myself about venturing into the rainforest walk, but the little guy (Zac) and me won out in the end.
As we began the very short trek, Makayla noticed the book on a hand railing. We stopped to have a snoop, being the curious creatures we are, and were all quite intrigued about the mysterious book.
Makayla begged me not to open it, but this synicysm of hers only inspired me more to delve deeper into the great unknown.
Which leads me to this diary entry. I have not yet began reading it, but hope to soon. So what now???????
