A reasonable thriller from an author new to me. Clara Rinker's initial motivation is understandable, and Lucas Davenport makes a good adversary.

Another competition clue. I still don't understand.

And another catch from the Unconvention, and again not for myself! Thanks, Netstation.

I picked it up for my dh but since he finished it I decided to read it myself. Usually with this type of book the goodies and the baddies are clearly delineated but this time I found myself having some sympathy with Clara Rinker. Good page-turning escapist thriller when you don't want anything demanding.

Synopsis from Amazon
Attorney Carmel Loan is beautiful, intelligent, ambitious - and used to getting what she wants. When she becomes infatuated with fellow barrister Hale Allen, she isn't going to let a little thing like his being married get in the way. So, through the contacts of an ex-client, she hired professional killer Clara Rinker to get rid of Allen's wife. Smart, attractive Rinker is the best hitwoman in the business - but things go wrong, and the shooting of a witness, a cop, brings DI Lucas Davenport into the case. Carmel Loan and Clara Rinker team up to clean up the loose ends - which includes getting Davenport off their backs by whatever means necessary.

I enjoyed this book. It wouldn't win any prizes for brilliant writing, but it was readable, and exciting, and kept me turning the pages. A v original plot, with a very professional hitwoman.
