Jacket 'blurb'

Bienville - a small town in the deep South ruled for generations by the Holt family. A town where vigilantes are never far away and where blacks 'know their place'. Lawyer Willie Croft deals with Bienville's misfits. He's resigned to an endless chain of petty theft, drunkeness and disorderly conduct - until oil is struck under black Creoletown on the one piece of land the Holts don't own.
When the mask is ripped away from the hypocritical face of patrician power Willie finds himself on the side of the blacks fighting against white exploitation. And as the reluctant torch-bearer of civil rights he stumbles on a secret the Holts would murder to hide . . .
