Natural Law
Joey W. Hill

Natural Law By Joey W. Hill
Mackenzie "Mac" Nighthorse is a highly respected homicide detective and a career cop. There isn't a dangerous situation that can back him down.
However, the personal becomes uncomfortably entangled in the professional when he goes undercover in a high class BDSM club as a male submissive to find a Dominatrix who is winning the trust and then murdering her chosen partners.

When his path crosses Violet Siemanski's, he realizes he's found a Mistress willing to be his ally in finding the murderess. But Violet is also going to shatter Mac's shields and make him question who he is and what he wants, a challenge more disturbing than any case he's ever worked.

Oops! I am so sorry. I forgot to make the release notes when I sent out this ring. I hardly ever forget to make entries. Things just have been so chaotic lately with me moving and all the fun stuff that comes with it.

Sorry I should have added the list at the beggining.
This is the list for this bookring. :)

Received in the mail from honey 101 as part of a bookring - wow, that was fast!

It looks so intriguing, too... I'll have a hard time waiting until my homework is done. ;-)

Thanks, honey101!

Whew - is it hot in here, or is it just me? This was awesome! Hot, hot HOT!

At times I thought Hill dwelled a little too much on the psychology of the D/s relationship, but if I were newly discovering the genre, I might have found it helpful. I did appreciate the emphasis on the consensual nature of the play.

I also was a little disappointed in the murder mystery aspect - I think it would have added to the story if the murder's motive weren't so tied up in the D/s. Part of the point of the story was that the characters have lives outside the sexual games they choose to play, and it seems as though tying the murders to something totally unrelated would have helped make that point. But since that aspect of it was really the backdrop for the romance, I can't fault it too badly for that.

The sex was way hot. The romance clicked for me. The minor characters were sometimes over the top in a deliberately flamboyant way that made them more real than if they'd been more ordinary, if that makes any sense.

I'll definitely be on the lookout for more of Joey's work!

Am waiting for the next address in the bookring to send it on. Thanks, honey101, for sharing it with us!

Yup, I have to agree - it's very hot and steamy here just now! Whew!

I thought this was great! I devoured it in one day! I was expecting a fun read, but it was actually better than I thought it would be, both in terms of the story and the writing. It handled the D/s scene very well and still managed to make the love story really work. I was glad the main characters were portrayed as intelligent, mature adults - that was a big part of what made the story work so well. And the sexy lead man turns out to be a vegetarian with culinary training? Oh boy! (Sorry, little fantasy of mine there!) By the end some of the author's defense of the D/s lifestyle was getting a little preachy, but then it's got to be hard to make sure all the readers can relate to main characters who choose less mainstream ways of life. Anyway, if this is a taste of what Ellora's Cave has to offer, then I'm impressed and will be on the lookout for more!

The only criticism I really have is that the murder mystery was such a separate part of the story stuck on to the end. It made the whole book come off like a novel about Mac and Violet's story plus a novella at the end about his work. The love story is definitely the stronger of the two (the murder mystery was pretty standard), but this was still a treat.

Overall, this was one hot, steamy, guilty-pleasure which I thoroughly enjoyed! Thanks so much for including me in this ring!

This came in yesterday's mail. Okay, maybe I shouldn't have peeked, but I did. Wow. From just the few paragraphs I read, he is such a strong character and is totally under her power, yet she cares about him. It's so intense. I'll read this & have it sent on its way in a few weeks. Thanks SO much for sharing!!

11-23-2005: PMd tnelson99 for address.

11-29-2005: Went in the mail yesterday. A few of y'all have mentioned that this book goes too much into the psychological why & wherefore of D/s. Well, I never knew much about it, so this was a perfect explanatory novel for me. The sex scenes were good, too. It was a great story. ;)

My apologies. I just realized that I never caught this book. I did receive it a long, long time ago. With all of our moving around I let things slip and am now trying to get things back in order-if it's possible. lol
