Case Histories
18 journalers for this copy...
I have enjoyed all her books but barely let this one out of my hands.
Some authors make me wonder 'How did she get inside my head?', this book definitely resonates.
Soon to be on its way to Heaven-Ali.
One off my wish list, kindly sent to me by Loribee, thanks so much!
Couldn't put it down! Fascinating storylines which weave together - very clever. I love the way Kate Atkinson writes her characters, they are real people with complex demons and pasts -I've got to read some more of her!
So I think I may start a bookring for this - any takers?

Posted to nicijil this morning.
Happy reading.
Received whilst I was away. Will read as soon as I've finished my current book.
Really enjoyed this book. I loved the multi layering of the storylines, though I have to admit to having to look back a couple of times to remind myself who was who. I also didn't find the open endedness of the Caroline and Theo storylines irritating which can sometimes happen. Very well written, I'll have to look out for more of her work.
Will post this out to arturogrande tomorrow.

RELEASE NOTES:
Posted to Arturogrande to continue the ring.
Arrived this morning - thank very much.
I'm away on holiday for two weeks from Saturday, and I won't have any computer access. I'll take this book away with me, and then journal it again when I get back.
Arrived back from holiday today, having read this while I was away.
I'll make a full journal entry in the next couple of days when I've got more time, and then I'll send the book on its way.
This is a deeply moving book, with real human emotions beautifully rendered. The separate strands of the storylines linked together very well, without ever seeming contrived.
I would like to have known a bit more about Caroline's story though - in particular, the vicar's decision. But then again, that's the sign of a good writer - one who leaves you wanting more and doesn't feel the need to tie everything up neatly at the end.
It's now on its way to suzy26.
Arrived by mail yesterday. Thanks for sending it, arturogrande! I cannot wait to start reading. If it is just as good as Behind the scenes at the museum, which I thoroughly enjoyed, then I am in for a real treat! Thankx for ringing it, Heaven-Ali!
I did not like this novel as much as I did Behind the Scenes at the Museum. This book is so full of deaths, murders, suicides, divorces and parents losing their children that it is quite depressing. Kate Atkinson's first novel contained a lot of humor, which is what Case Histories lacks. The story started off quite promising, but about half way through, it started getting a bit boring. I didnot like Amelia and Julia very much, They came accross as two rather hysterical women and I didnot care to hear more about their lives, but I was told about them anyway. On the other hand I would have liked to hear more about Shirley, Michelle, Caroline and Tanya, but that part of the story remains a bit vague, as there are many loose ends in this narrative. All in all Case Histories was a bit of a disappointment to me, but maybe my expectations were too high after Behind the Scenes at the Museum.
I have pm'd eMeReS for her address.
Book is on its way to eMeReS.
I have received the book this morning. Like Suzy26 I also enjoyed Behind the Scenes at the Museum. Glimpsing through the previous journals I see that she didn't like this one as much, and others also have some points of criticism. I am not going to read any more journals now, so that I can read the book with an open mind.
I have a nice reading corner in my bedroom that is bathed in sunlight right now, so it seems like a perfect moment to start reading.
I have mixed feelings about this book. In spite of the tragic events I liked the first chapters in which the cases are presented. I love the way in which Kate Atkinson paints her characters, the images she uses are very vivid and often full of irony.
What I did not like is the way the histories are sort of forced together. I liked what I read on the back: "the world consists of one acounting sheet - Lost on the left, Found on the right - and the two never seem to balance." I did not expect a crime novel in which everthing neatly adds up at the end, but more of an exploration of this imbalance and the way the characters deal with it. There was a bit of both and for me it didn't work.
In Behind the Scenes of the Museum I loved the way in which the characters and stories were closely connected and woven into each other, but the core of that book is a family and that makes it fit. I missed that glue in this book, and although life is often stranger than fiction, I didn't buy most of the relationships that evolved between the characters.
Al in all it was still a good read and I am going to read more by Kate Atkinson.
The book will be on its way to BrooklinBrat soon.
Received in the mail yesterday. Will get to it as soon as I finish the four other bookrings that have arrived recently!
I enjoyed the feel of the book, and I enjoyed the characters.
One thought though: Is it just me, or does Atkinson always write about mums who haven't really liked kids? "I coulda been somebody/I coulda been happy if it weren't for them," seems to be a recurring theme.
Thanks for including me in this bookring! (Should have it in the mail to loveamystery by tomorrow.)
Mailed today to loveamystery
Received this book in the mail today. Looking forward to reading it.
I enjoyed this book and would be interested in reading anything else she has written. Thank you Heaven-Ali for sharing it.

RELEASE NOTES:
Will be on the table with all the others.
Gosh, what a well-travelled book! I picked this up at the UnConvention in Birmingham yesterday. I enjoyed Behind the Scenes at the Museum so when this finally makes the top of Mt TBR I have high hopes. Then I'll try to help it to continue it on its travels.
This is a book about the loss and grief experienced by three different families. As the plot develops, links between the cases emerge, and the lives of the survivors become intertwined. The eventual discovery of what exactly happened is almost beside the point, with no sense of justice or resolution being reached. The victims are still long dead, the survivors still dealing with their grief and loss. The darkness of the stories is lifted by the vividness of the characters and moments of comedy, and by Atkinson's constant sense of irony.
I really enjoyed this book and intend to pass it on as a surprise RABCK to a fellow bookcrosser.
Recived from herrgirl this morning. Thank you very much for spotting this on my wish list. Looking forward to reading it.
I haven't read Kate Atkinson before and was not sure what to make of this book. I think I was hoping it would be more of a murder mystery thriller but it was much deeper than that. I suppose all in all i did'nt enjoy it enough to read more by this author but thanks anyway to herrgirl for letting me have the chance to find out.
It certainly has travelled a lot and I will see if I can send it on its way soon to someone else who would like it.
Have spotted this on vespa's wishlist so its now going to Weymouth as a rabck!
ooo how exciting a totally unexpected rabck. Can't wait to read it. Thank you sooo much
Oh I so enjoyed this book. I wanted to keep it and read it again and again, but as this is such a well travelled little book, that wouldn't be fair. It just so happens that this book is on the wish list of my NSS partner, so now I'm going to pass it on to her.
WOW, I can't believe how many entries this book has had so far - and how many surprise RABCKs it's been part of already.
The very lovely Vespa sent this to me as part of an NSS parcel, crammed full of lovely treats. She's spoilt me rotten, and found a wonderful selection of books off my wishlist. Thank you ever so much - I shall read this and then continue this book's legacy of RABCKs!
Loved the book - thank you. Setting it free today in Brighton, as part of the BCUK Unconvention 2007.

RELEASE NOTES:
Released as part of the BCUK Unconvention 2007.
Caught this novel at the BCUK Unvonvention in Brighton. Heard it was a good book so looking forward to reading it.
Was found on a park bench by my better half. He read it and I finished it this morning.
Clever concept with believable characters but rather on the dark side of things.
Going to take it on its travels oop north next.
I don`t read novels. I prefer to talk to people, but a friend persuaded me to look at this. So I did and then couldnot put it down!
Persuade another friend to read it.
