>>>Baking is an alchemical process for Corinna Chapman. At four am she starts work at Earthly Delights, her bakery in Calico Lane.
But one morning Corinna receives a threatening note saying "The wages of sin is death" and finds a syringe in her cat's paw. A blue-faced junkie has collapsed in the dark alley and a mysterious man with beautiful eyes apears with a plan for Corinna and her bread. Then it is Goths, dead drug addicts, witchcraft, a homeless boy and a missing girl and it seems she will never get those muffins cooked in time.<<<
I really enjoyed the second book of this series and ordered this first book so that I could catch up on the introduction to Corinna Chapman.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as the second one in the series, Heavenly Pleasures, which I read first. I found myself getting annoyed at the author's constant digs at the government of the day which she obviously doesn't like; it is unnecessary to the story and will annoy the majority of Australian readers who resoundingly voted the government into power.
However, this book introduces the characters who appear again in the second book and it has a nice little mystery of which I guessed the perpertrator. And of, course, a 'beautiful young man' - one of Greenwood's specialities.
Goths and muffins - a heady mix.

Thanks, pinkozcat. I like your label.

RE. the label. I have put it into the database at yahoo. It is done in MS Word and can be customised to suit anyone in any place. I simply photographed a couple of iconic places in my suburb and used them as the picture. The picture, placename, blurb and BC name can all be changed to suit.

I couldn't wait. I stayed up into the early hours of this morning reading this & enjoyed it immensely. I enjoyed the digs at the government too. It added a bit more spice at any rate. Daniel sounds divine - too good to be true but where do I get one. The Prof's a great character - they're all rather likeable really - and the cats are perfect.
Thanks pinkozcat. Off to gypsyrose02 next. Posted 6/9/5.

on its way to buggy hare
Received today! Will get to it soon I hope!
Well, I received a PM earlier this evening from bookworm-BNE, as I was going to send the book on since I'd been holding up the ring for so long (sorry everyone!), and I thought, maybe I should just start to see what it's like - and I read it cover to cover (with a break for dinner - I watched Jamie Oliver - I find him annoying but he usually cooks nice things. Shame he wasn't baking tonight!)! I can't remember the last time I read a book in one sitting!
I absolutely loved this book, Corinna certainly makes a change from Phryne, much easier to relate to (despite her adventures). And the people in her building certainly were interesting characters! I can't wait to read about her other adventures, especially since pinkozcat says she didn't enjoy this book as much as the second. Looks like we've had a few cat lovers read this one already - alas, I don't have a lap cat - mine was outside, perhaps catching some mice? (If so, I don't get to see them, thankfully. I think he's more into geckoes.)
Thank you so much for this book pinkozcat, I really enjoyed it. Will be in the mail to bookworm-BNE tomorrow!

Posted to bookworm-BNE this morning! Enjoy!
Arrived safely yesterday, really looking forward to this as I'm currently reading two books that are really slow going... Might just have to give up and have some fun with this one. Thanks for sharing PinkOzCat.
This was great, totally indulgent and I devoured it in a couple of days. Gave me a much needed break from some more serious literature. My house mate just got home and disappeared off with it, I suspect she'll do it in one sitting so I'm sending to tantan on Monday.
I'm a fan and since I received the second book, Heavenly Pleasures, today that's what I'll be disappearing off with in a minute :)
Update 30 Jan:
Sorry about the delay - I currently suffer from a stress fracture and had a set-back last week so I didnt make it to the post office (or anywhere else). The book is wrapped up now with Heavenly Pleasures and they are both going to tantan today. Promise.

Received - thanks bookworm-BNE! I'll get to it as soon as I can.
I would have to say I enjoyed Corinna Chapman more than Phryne Fisher. It was such an easy and funny read, it was hard to put down. Loved the baking and the cats. I plan to copy out the Plum Pudding Muffins recipe and give them a go. Really looking forward to Heavenly Pleasures which I have here, and I noticed a new one, I think called Devil's Food, in the A&R bookshop on Friday.
This will head off to sally906 together with Heavenly Pleasures once I've read it.

Posted to sally906 today.
Arrived in today's mail along with heavenly pleasure - have a couple ahead of them but will get them out together within the four weeks.
What a wonderful character Corinne is - I just love her - and loved the book too. Will send off to astro248 along with Heavenly pleasures as soon as I get some more 3kg satchels from Post Office.

Arrived today thanks astro2480!
Looking forward to reading this...my first Kerry Greenwood book. Did someone say muffins? ^_^
