I really liked this one! Isabel Dalhousie is such a great character! :-) Gave this to a friend of mine before I'll pass it on. Looking forward to the next part! :-)

Journal Entry 4 by spiderchic from Droylsden, Greater Manchester United Kingdom on Tuesday, November 29, 2005
Just finished reading this. I found it rather enjoyable but not quite as good as the No 1 Lady Detective series. Thank you for giving me the chance to read it. Off the back cover: 'Behind Edinburgh's regimented Georgian facades, its moral compasses are spinning with greed, dishonesty, lust and murderous intent. Isabel Dalhousie knows this. Isabel, in fact, rather relishes it. An accomplished philosopher and editor of the Review of Applied Ethics, she knows all about the difference between good and bad. Which is probably why, by instinct, she is an amateur sleuth. And instinct tells her the man who tumbled to his death in front of her eyes after a concert in the Usher Hall didn't fall. He was pushed...' Reserved for a bookray

Journal Entry 7 by Karenlea from Glendale, California USA on Wednesday, December 07, 2005
This was a quick read. It was just ok. In general I did not enjoy it as much as his other series and I am not sure if I would bother with reading the next one. The story dragged and I really didn't care about any of the characters. I will be passing it on to the next reader, as soon as I get her address.

What a suprise. I just received this book addressed to my last address, which I moved from six months ago. I'd forgotten I'd signed up for this bookray and I'm a little amazed that it found its way to me. It's good to know that the post office will forward media mail. Now that it's here, though, it's next on my TBR pile and then I'll send it on.

In some ways I liked this series better than the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. I liked Isabel and her observations a lot, but sometimes Smith just gives his readers too much description. To me, this slows the story, sometimes to a crawl, and makes the reading tedious. If he added more dialouge and speed up the plot a little I'd be more willing to continue with the series. This one is on its way to hobbit tomorrow.

A lovely, cosy mystery. I agree that it's not quite as much fun as the #1 Ladies Detective Agency series, but I still enjoyed it and will probably pick up others in the series. I just received another book by this author, The Finer Points of Sausage Dogs as a gift. It's a thin, comic novel - part of a series of 3 - and I'm looking forward to trying that, too. I have this packaged up to be sent out to BigEyes - I hope to get to the Post Office tomorrow morning before I take off for a few days on a business trip.

WOW, I am truly sorry and must apologize profusely to all. I put this book in my office's outgoing mail intending to pop-on the mailing address and forgot the last part. It has been sitting there for a very long time, and all because I simply forgot I hadn't added the address. I thought it had gone on long ago. So, again, I apologize to all for holding-up this ring for so long.
