I just received this yesterday in the mail from a bookclub I just signed up for. I've heard good things about this book and I'm excited to read it. I have a lot of books on my table to read so it might be a while before I get to this one.

I would have rated this a lot higher, but I didn't like the ending. The story built up tension and then ended rather fast and left lose ends with the character's private life. However, I really enjoyed the story up until then. Maybe there'll be a sequal to finish telling the story.

I didn't like this book very much.

It seemed like one of the two authors had it out for one of their previous employers and wrote this book out of revenge. I didn't develop any empathy for the 'Nanny' character, so the actions of the 'X family' didn't really seem all that shocking or despicable. It's too bad that this didn't live up to any of the hype because I had high hopes for it.

Just received from Red-Head in the mail. Thanks! I requested this book cause it got such contrasting reviews from other Bookcrossers and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about! I'll post my "opinion" after I've read it.
Thanks again.

It had some funny moments and some very, very sad moments. In the end it made me truly grateful that no matter how often I come home tired and frustrated, there are always two little boys who can't wait to tell me about their day because *they* know it will always make me feel better even when I forget.

Ultimately, I found this story very sad. I realize that it is a satire and assume that the people it is about are charicatures and composites of different people. Still, it seems like it was written to point out some truths about the way in which the extremely wealthy live their lives and raise their children. Even if the circumstances were exaggerated, I feel like the authors wanted to get a point across about the deplorable way in which some people treat their children. (Either that or it really was just about getting back at some former employer -- which could very well be the case). Whether these were fair or accurate judgments, I cannot say. It just left me very sad for a child like the one in the story and thinking about how scarred such a child would be by the constant loss of people he or she loves.

Mailed January 24, 2003 to LaRue. Enjoy!

This book has its funny moments, but it's ultimately a sad story. It's written by a college student who is Nanny to what I call a Trophy Child. That is, the child of exceptionally wealthy people (Dad is a power broker who is never home, Mom doesn't work but doesn't mother her child either). Living in NY, I see people like the X's every single day, this book does not exaggerate them one bit! Mrs. X's spend all their time overscheduling their kid, worrying about what school he'll get into because of what they will have to tell their friends, and scheming to hang on to the husband/money. Rarely do they ever actually spend any time with their child. What results is that the kid learns what he lives - grows up to be emotionally unavailable, self-obsessed, and rude to anyone he considers inferior which is usually everyone. I thought the authors really captured this rarefied world of overindulged yet underloved children.

**SPOILER JOURNAL ENTRY****
The instant I picked up this book I detested the Xes. They treat Grover as an accessory rather than a child. I found this really sad, children not only deserve repect, but also love from their parents. It really made me access my own parenting skills. I'm now PMing Muffin77 and hope to get this in the mail this week.

Just found it in my Uni-mailbox =:o) - thanks so much for letting me read it (as a former AuPair...)

Released on Monday, June 23, 2003 at Postal release to fellow bookcrosser in Cologne/Köln, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany.

Sent to phillycarol who is next on the list. I didn't read the book yet - because the time I arrived the book is the worst possible. I am about to graduate and therefore have no freetime at all - so to avoid delays I send it on today. Have fun and when I am finally graduated and have more time I'll try to get another copy since I REALLY wish to read this book =:o)

I thought this book was well written. I hated the X's but I'm sure there are people in the world that are just like them. Maybe some of the story was slightly exaggerated for story-telling purposes, but it really got the point across. I would recommend the book to others.

I'll mail this one to krazykatstar this week.
