Book description:
"Packed with recommendations of the world's best places to visit, on and off the beaten path, 1,000 PLACES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE is a joyous, passionate gift for travelers, an around-the-world, continent-by-continent listing of beaches, museums, monuments, islands, inns, restaurants, mountains, and more."

And what could be more fitting than to send this book on its own adventure? Let's start a bookring with a minor twist: in your journal entry, tell us about some of the places in the book that YOU have been to. Also, feel free to write in the book with your thoughts too.

June 22, 2005: Putting in the mail today. Happy travels!

Journal Entry 2 by jillmari3 from Lake Worth, Florida USA on Friday, July 1, 2005
This is a great book, so much to take in, I found it a bit overwhelming to look at in one sitting!

I was happy to see some familiar places, such as the Monterey Peninsula in CA (where I spent part of my childhood), San Fransisco's Cable Cars (I rode on these as a child), and places I've been to recently, like the Florida Keys.

Thanks for starting this bookring tnkbl!

I'll mail this off to echesketch today!

7/8/05 - Received 1,000 Places in the mail today. Eerie timing but I'm looking forward to my husband and I looking through it.

Places with the name St. James has always been a part of our life together for some odd reason. My husband proposed to me at a local work hangout called the St. James Cafe (a bar really). The owners of the cafe owned the entire city block in Wash., DC, sold it all and you guessed it, set up shop in a place called St. James in Antigua. I landed a job (for 10 years!) at a parochial school called St. James, and we stumbled across a murder mystery hotel called St. James Hotel while traveling in New Mexico (near Cimmaron if I recall correctly).

Wouldn't you know it, I was sitting there with my husband opening the package. My first "page flip" went directly to St. James Trek in Galecia, Spain. The second page flip stopped at Lizard Island. Hmmmm, that's an iguana I've had posted on my bookshelf! (Though he barely qualifies as a lizard; his tailswing is worse than his toothless bite.)

I can't wait to see what more coincidences lie ahead in this book along with some wonderful surprise ideas for future travels. Hopefully, I'll find locales listed in this book of places that I've traveled throughout my life.

Stay tuned!

Received in the mail today and already feeling overwhelmed by this tome! I'm afraid I'm not among the people who will make it to Mali, Oman, or Tonga. I'll be lucky to see more than a few of the ones listed for the US. More later...

I have skimmed through this book and, since I am feeling overwhelmed by bookrings at the moment, I'm going to pass it along to 45Costello. It is a fun list of places to visit--perhaps I can get to some of the US locations one day! Thanks, tnkbl, for sharing this one.

Mailed to 45Costello on 8-10-05.
