Journal Entry 1 by Mistlerose from Frankston, Victoria Australia on Friday, June 17, 2005
The London season is in full fling at the end of the 1920's, but the Honourable Phryne Fisher - she of the green-grey eyes, diamante garters and outfits that should not be sprung suddenly on those of nervous dispositions - is rapidly tiring of the tedium of arranging flowers, making polite conversations with retired colonels, and dancing with weak chinned men. Instead, Phryne decides it might be rather amusing to try her hand at being a lady detective in Melbourne Australia.

Almost immediately from the time she books into the Windsor Hotel, Phryne is embroiled in mystery: poisoned wives, cocaine smuggling rings, corrupt cops and communism - not to mention erotic encounters with the beautiful Russian dancer, Sasha de Lisse - until her adventure reaches its steamy end in the Turkish baths of Little Lonsdale Street.

The first in the Phryne Fisher books.

Journal Entry 6 by Funkybamboozle from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Saturday, July 16, 2005
I've nearly finished, but have a question: how do you probounce "Phryne"? Is it Frine? Frin? Briny? HELP! It's driving me insane not knowing!!

Journal Entry 7 by Funkybamboozle from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Saturday, July 16, 2005
so now Im totally addicted to the series and will be scouting for more to read (I promise to share). I loved this book. The main protagonist is just the type of girl the twenties needed!! I love that book combined detective, romance (just for the sexy love scenes) and historical genres to produce this racy novel. very easy to read - I read it almost overnight!!

Thank you so much for sharing and for introducing me to this wonderful series. The only concern that I have is that at $20 a pop, is it worth buying the series when I finish each book so quickly. I will debate this with myself - but I know Ill probably end up getting them all, they're just so fine!!

Will post out to next on the list Monday

Journal Entry 8 by Littlemave from Weston, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Tuesday, July 19, 2005
Picked up from the mail box this morning on the way to work, thanks funkyb, and couldnt help myself getting started over lunch today.
I love her stories, they are so refreshing, not to mention there is plenty of 'sauce' in them!! This is my 4th I think, or is it 5th?
Will endeavour to get it read in the next couple of weeks.

Journal Entry 9 by Littlemave from Weston, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Tuesday, August 9, 2005
aaaaah! *lights a gasper* Just so fine to see where it all began. Thanks mistlerose.

Phryne really is a little minx, but the detective life seems to agree with her, she's only happy when the adrenaline is flowing, and the odds stacked against her. Funny though about the Dot Bryant/Williams typo - I think the PF website mentions it...

Oh, and by the way, its pronounced Frine-y, like briny!

The other funny thing, and this has happened to me before, is reading 2 consecutive books with the same partial subject matter, in this case 1920's/30's illegal abortionists (plus a bit of arsenic). My last book was Medical Witness by Richard Gordon. Very bizarre.....

Will pass on to catsalive, hopefully tomorrow.

Placed in my hot, little hands today. Thanks, Claire. I don't know how I'll resist reading it this weekend.

Journal Entry 11 by wingcatsalivewing from Rooty Hill, New South Wales Australia on Thursday, August 11, 2005
I couldn't resist it, Claire. I didn't even last until the weekend. I had to read the first book in this excellent series straight away. It was good to see how it all began. Phryne is a super heroine for any age.

Thanks Mistlerose. I'll send this off to buggyhare as soon as I have the address. Posted 15/8/5.

Journal Entry 12 by buggyhare from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Thursday, August 18, 2005
Thanks catsalive, received this today! Have a few other books waiting, but I'm sure to read this one soon! Thanks Mistlerose for organising the ring!

Journal Entry 13 by buggyhare from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Saturday, September 24, 2005
Ok, well I didn't get to this one as soon as I'd hoped, but I certainly enjoyed it! As it was sitting on my TBR pile for so long, my brother borrowed it (not the reason it took me so long to get to it - that was entirely my fault!) - he enjoyed it too, but complained that too much time was spent describing Phryne's clothes! It was nice to find out how she met Dot, Bert and Cec - I can't wait to read more Phryne books! Will pass on to mummafour as soon as I have an address. Thanks for organising the ring, Mistlerose.

Very pleased to have the first Phyrne book to read!
Thanx Mistlerose and mummafour for sending on; I'll start reading tonight!

Journal Entry 18 by Lisagt from Holsworthy, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, October 18, 2005
I had a few distractions last week and didn't really get to this book until the weekend. I was up extra early today to get my husband to the airport so when I got home I managed to get some reading in before work! !
Having read a couple of other Phryne Fisher books it was great to go back to the beginning. Interestingly, Dot seems much older in later books - a woman rather than a girl. Funny how Phyrne just 'adopts' people on the spot! Also, good to learn about the genesis of Bert and Cec - they were more ocker in this one.
The only thing I really didn't like was the title! I think a better title would be The King of Snow; don't you agree?...
Lakelady2282 is next.

Journal Entry 19 by Lisagt from Holsworthy, New South Wales Australia on Wednesday, October 19, 2005
Popped in the post to Lakelady2282 today! Enjoy!

Journal Entry 20 by lakelady2282 from Lake Macquarie, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, October 25, 2005
The book arrived today. What wonderful timing! I was just beginning to panic because it looks like I have nothing to take to my Mum's to read this weekend. I have nearly finished the Eagle and the Rose (about the medium Rosemary Altea, soon to be marked available) and I'm not sure about taking my other bookring - About the Author. Might not be light enough. So thanks Mistlerose and Lisagt.

Journal Entry 21 by lakelady2282 from Lake Macquarie, New South Wales Australia on Sunday, November 6, 2005
This was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to reading all the others in the series. Phryne certainly sets a cracking pace. There is hardly time to draw breath and that's my only complaint. I would have liked her to spend a little more time ruminating on the crime she is working on and just generally expressing her opinions but that's probably just me. Is anyone offering Flying Too High as a bookring? This is off to katz27 shortly. Thanks Mistlerose.
