Impressed by fiction, given dubious cover illustration. So many plot twists at the end that I find it was difficult to remember what happened, and what I imagined would happen. Enjoyed characterisation and human observation of main character. Will look out for more books by MS. Comparisons to Catherine Cookson were made? Never read any to know...
