I picked this up at UNM's annual "Staff Appreciation Week Book Swap". I've been wanting to read this for a while. (I still think Gaiman looks like Martin Short - maybe a new promo picture for his book jackets is needed?)

Arrived safely today. thank you for passing the book along, and thank you for the bookmark. I am sure when my daughter sees it she will commandeer it as she was only asking for a new bookmark at the weekend.

Journal Entry 6 by wingappletreenwing from Coalville, Leicestershire United Kingdom on Thursday, February 23, 2006
I really ejoyed this book, neil gaiman is a fantastic author who has the ability to transport you exactly where he wants to take you. A stranger from beyond the wall is bound to her mistress until the day that the moon looses her daughter, if it occured in a week when two Mondays come together, and does the stranger break her bonds?

Fantastic stuff!

If the ray is complete I would like to include this book in my new book box http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/3708170 to continue its journey. Of course I understand if the book has other places to travel.

I loved American Gods and Good Omens so I couldn't resist taking this from Catrionamoore's bookbox. I hope I like it as much as the others!

I loved this! It was so beautifully written and yet so stark in some places. I loved the contrasts. I thought that part of the ending was a bit predictable but the writing more than made up for that. I might just have to buy my own copy of this book!

Journal Entry 11 by Yinny from Capelle aan den IJssel, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Friday, June 9, 2006
Got it! Received yesterday, but I didn't had the time to journal it! Thank you, wubbaducky and all the others for giving me the chance to read this book!

Journal Entry 12 by Yinny from Capelle aan den IJssel, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Sunday, June 11, 2006
What a enchanting story! I love it! I want to buy my own copy and then never let it go! The story was just too short, I didn't want to read the book too fast, but I just couldn't stop myself.
This book will travel to Portugal asap!

Journal Entry 13 by Frangipani04 on Friday, June 23, 2006
It's with me! I'm looking forward to read this book. It will be my first book by this author and I'm quite curious. Thank you all for sharing this well-travelled book (especially, thanks wubbaducky!). Thank you for sending it and for the nice little surprise enclosed, Yinny (simple, but it made me smile!).

Journal Entry 14 by Frangipani04 on Wednesday, July 19, 2006
I wasn’t expecting to like this book so much. Actually, I didn’t know much about this book and had never read anything by this author, so I joined this bookring mostly out of curiosity. I’m glad I did! The first pages were enough to get me involved in this fantasy world. After reading it, I feel like I’ve travelled through places far far away (and quite strange, by the way). Thank you all for sharing it!

It is already packed to go Denmark. I hope the book makes a safe and short journey!

Edit 24/07 - sent today!

Journal Entry 15 by pelikanol from Treherbert, Wales United Kingdom on Wednesday, July 26, 2006
Great! I'll start reading it right away.

Journal Entry 16 by pelikanol from Treherbert, Wales United Kingdom on Thursday, August 3, 2006
This is the best book I've read by Neil Gaiman. It truly is a modern fairy tale, but with that certain roughness that Gaiman really masters so well. I can't believe the book was that good! :D

I'm waiting for the next persons address and then I'll send the book on straight away when I get it.

Journal Entry 17 by JaneUK from Flitwick, Bedfordshire United Kingdom on Thursday, August 17, 2006
Received this in the post today, thank you!

Journal Entry 18 by JaneUK from Flitwick, Bedfordshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, August 29, 2006
When I started reading this I realised that I had actually read it before, a few years ago. I enjoyed it a lot then and I still enjoyed it now. Good solid fantasy, a great read.

PM'd abrokenstarr for address.

Journal Entry 19 by abrokenstarr from Reading, Berkshire United Kingdom on Friday, September 1, 2006
Typical - I've been light on rings all summer while I've had time off, and just as I'm about to start the new term a deluge of books has arrived.

I have three rings with me at the moment, and a promised book to post on. I will try to get through all of them as quickly as I can.

Journal Entry 20 by abrokenstarr from Reading, Berkshire United Kingdom on Saturday, September 16, 2006
Read this in 48 hours, really enjoyed it. Will post it on as soon as possible.

Journal Entry 21 by abrokenstarr from Reading, Berkshire United Kingdom on Saturday, September 16, 2006
Posting today.

Journal Entry 22 by YowlYY on Wednesday, September 20, 2006
Arrived today, thanks for mailing it :)

It's no.2 on my Mount TBR and will be started very soon...

Journal Entry 23 by YowlYY on Thursday, October 12, 2006
This has been a wonderful fairy tale, with all the elements that make it perfect: a nasty witch, a not-so-nasty-but-not-good-either witch, two love stories, good magic, ghosts, intrigues, gruesome killings, the succession for a throne, talking animals and trees, and a village next to an enchanted wood. Brilliant! I loved the language, too, and as it is my first Gayman book, I cannot wait now to read those that are on my Mount TBR.
This is off today to tutleymutley...happy reading!

Journal Entry 24 by tutleymutley from Newton Abbot, Devon United Kingdom on Wednesday, October 18, 2006
I'm going to take this on holiday with me (and about half a dozen others from mount toobie!) - thanks yowlYY and labmomnm and wubba!

Journal Entry 25 by tutleymutley from Newton Abbot, Devon United Kingdom on Saturday, November 18, 2006
I didn't get to read this whilst on holiday - too many other things to do - but I've read it now and it was wonderful, a modern day Grimm's fairytale, with, like Yowlyy says, all the right components. It even ties up all the loose ends at the end (which is surely the right place to do so)...
I'm already a Gaiman fan - this just comfirms my adoration.
I'll be PMing Classicfox.

Journal Entry 26 by classicfox on Friday, November 24, 2006
Received in mail today--and looks really good! I have one ring to finish up and then on to this one. Thanks for including me, wubbaducky, and thanks to tutleymutley for sending it from the UK!

Journal Entry 27 by classicfox on Tuesday, December 5, 2006
I've come to the unfortunate conclusion that there must be something wrong with me! I'm sure I am the only person who didn't like this book--and I tried, I really did try! I guess fantasy is not my genre. However...I have two other Gaiman books on my shelf and do intend to give him another try. And I am thankful to have been included in this ray, because I have been curious about this book for some time.
Will be on its way to Erishkigal as soon as I get her address.

Released 17 yrs ago (12/12/2006 UTC) at To the next participant in Bookring/Bookray, -- By post or by hand/ in person -- Canada

Here! I afraid I don't know when it arrived....my house was overflowing with relatives for most of Dec, and into the first of this month...today I found a stash that included Stardust, several gimmes, an overdue bill, and my Azimov mag....now if my mom's cell and my warm gloves will just turn up.... I apologize, and will read asap.

Journal Entry 30 by wingerishkigalwing from Salt Lake City, Utah USA on Monday, January 29, 2007
a charming fantasy, just the sort of light reading I need right now. this is the first Gaiman I've read, and I did enjoy it--- sweet, but with enough "jolts" to keep from being cloyingly so:) Thanks for sharing, wubbaducky. I've pm'd genielady and will send off as soon as I have her address.

Journal Entry 31 by Genielady from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia USA on Saturday, March 3, 2007
The book arived today. I have another (fat) bookring to read, but this one looks so good, I may move it ahead. I really like his children's books, but this is the first one for "grown-ups" that I've read. Thanks for sharing!

Journal Entry 32 by Lpree from Omaha, Nebraska USA on Tuesday, April 3, 2007
This arrived a couple of days ago. I've really enjoyed the other Neil Gaiman books I've read so am very anxious to read it. I've already started it and will get it moving again soon.

Journal Entry 33 by Lpree from Omaha, Nebraska USA on Friday, May 18, 2007
Sorry for the delay! I finished this recently and really enjoyed it. I think I really like Neil Gaiman's style... I discovered recently that a movie is in the works based on this book, so I look forward to checking that out and seeing how they compare.

I'll get this mailed out as soon as I get an address from the next in line.

thanks for sharing this book!

Journal Entry 34 by elytra from Victoria, British Columbia Canada on Saturday, September 1, 2007
I got this book a couple of days ago, and had just finished reading the illustrated version (which is gorgeous), so I loaned it to a friend for a couple of days so he could read it. I'm in the middle of moving right now, so it might take me a week or two to find my envelopes ^_^;

Journal Entry 35 by magicjessnrach from Flagstaff Hill, South Australia Australia on Wednesday, March 5, 2008
This arrived today, thanks. I wasn't actually contacted about this and would have asked to be removed if I had been. Consequently it may be with me for a little while as I am swamped with work.

Journal Entry 36 by magicjessnrach at Adelaide, South Australia Australia on Wednesday, February 16, 2011
I have tried contacting the next person on the list but have had no answer. So this book is being donated to the Westminster bookshelf!

Journal Entry 37 by WestminsterBC at Marion, South Australia Australia on Wednesday, February 16, 2011
On the bookshelf in room 203!

Journal Entry 38 by LeahsOtherSide at Marion, South Australia Australia on Saturday, February 19, 2011
Haven't read this yet, but it looks good. I've been wanting to read this, so I was happy to find it on Westminster's bookshelf :)

Journal Entry 39 by LeahsOtherSide at Marion, South Australia Australia on Thursday, June 23, 2011
Finally got around to reading this. It was a great book, and I'll be sure to find more of Neil Gaiman's book in the future. Quite possibly one of the best books I've ever read. I will put it back on the Westminster bookshelf where I have a feeling one of the teachers has already got their eye on it...
