I Have Lived a Thousand Years
8 journalers for this copy...
I bought this on a 3 for 2 offer. It is a fascinating memoir by a Jewish teenager in Slovakia during the Nazi Occupation. We follow her experiences as she must leave school, wear the Jewish star, and is later sent to Auschwitz.
This memoir is thoughtful in its comparisons with Anne Frank's Diary as the author experienced the labour camps which Anne never did reach.
I'm offering this as a bookray on BCUK.

Received in the post today. Thanks Darcenia, I will look forward to reading it.
Thanks for sharing this book. Having read Anne Frank's diary several times I could not resist this when it was offered.
I look forward to seeing the thoughts of others.

Wow.
What can I say, other than what this poor woman went through when she was just a child is amazing. The book is written incredibly well, and I felt like I was there, peering over her shoulder as she went through these horrific experiences. I literally couldn't put the book down so long as I had the energy to read it (I'm ill right now or I reckon I'd have finished it in an evening!) - I started it yesterday, and finished it when I woke up this morning. I'm amazed that I didn't have nightmares from the content, to be honest!
Thank you so much for sharing this book with me, Robbiesmum - I believe that it is very important that stories of people who endured such atrocities are not lost, as these are important lessons for the future, to ensure than nothing like this happens again.
Wow.
I'll now send this on to Perfect-Circle, and I hope she enjoys it as much as I did. It's amazing to be able to share in these experiences without having to live through them ourselves.

Off on its way to the next reader - enjoy!
Arrived today with some sweeties :) Couldn't be timed better as I have nothing demanding to be read and have just finished something. Will read and pass on in the next few days hopefully.
I could have finished this in one sitting but felt it necessary to have a break from it every so often because it was so unrelenting. It was like watching it over her shoulder and I found parts of it upsetting.
Like all similar books, this demands to be read, if only so that we can learn from it and ensure it never happens again.
I have Vespa's address and will be posting on tomorrow. Thank you robbiesmum for sending this out.

POsted on to Vespa this morning
Arrived safely this morning with perfect timing as I had just finished the one I was reading. I shall start this one tonight.
Wow what can i say that hasn't been said. I shed tears for this child and her suffering and found myself wondering whether my own teenage daughter would be strong enough to bear all the horror this poor girl did. This should be compulsive reading for all teenagers and I intend to buy my own copy now so that I can try and persuade my own kids to read it.
Received the book in the post. Thanks for the cute butterfly bookmark, you must know I needed it!
I read The Story of Anna Frank at secondary and it has stayed with me ever since. I don't doubt for a moment that this book will have any less effect on me.
A very touching story told in an innocent, child like way that helps you to understand all Elli's emotions during her traumatic experience. Some amazing circumstances worked toward their survival, the first and most significant when Mengele saved her life. I read the book slowly because I paused to reflect on each event. This book as a set text in schools would go a long way to educate the new generation that hatred of one race, religion or colour is a very dangerous thing.
Sending off to Anglers Rest
Received from Gembear today.
Will read ASAP
I read this yesterday and finished the last few pages this morning.
What an incrediably moving book. As I read the book I kept wondering what how I would cope in the same situation and it doesn't bear thinking about. Total comprehension became apparent at the end of the book, when someone looked at 14 year old and thought she was a 60 year old.
A very moving book.
Taken out of Sandbox 1, for my TBR pile
An amazing book, like others I cried over it and wondered how I or my children would have coped in such a situation. Thanks for sharing, everyone.
This is now going into the 'Never Judge a Book' Box, wrapped in brown paper with just the first line on the front to entice future recipients.
