Short stories

Journal Entry 2 by daveytay from Christchurch, Canterbury New Zealand on Tuesday, June 14, 2005
Ray Bradbury shorts, yay. No, that is not Ray Bradbury's Shorts but his short stories. I liked some of his early works, and some of it just turned me off him for years. It has been about 15 years since I have read a Bradbury book, so this will be a good test for me.

I don't think one of these stories mentions space. Ok maybe one has some time travel, but they are mostly thought provoking shorts. I think I may have read most of these before, but the good ones are always good again...

Maybe Cathietay will enjoy them as much as I did.

Ray Bradbury is one of those authors who I always think I *should* like, but I'm not sure whether I actually do - like Daveytay, I've had a mixed reaction to his earlier works. Anyway, I'm going to give him another chance and see how he's developed since then.

Picked up at tonight's meetup.

I'm *still* not sure whether I like Bradbury or not - there's some good stories and interesting ideas in here, but his writing style tends towards the over-florid. He's starting to betray his age a bit, too - even the stories set in the 1990s had an air of the 1930s-1950s to them. I suppose every writer has to write what s/he knows best, but a lot of these stories did feel more like reminiscences than speculative fiction.
