The book was interesting taking us through Beethoven's life and the journey of a lock of his hair taken from his head while he lay in his coffin by one of his young students Hiller, who was completely taken by Beethovens music, wanted something of Beethoven. I was completely fascinated by the amount of music Beethoven wrote. We read about 2 American Beethoven enthusiasts who purchased the lock of hair in London at a Sotherby's Auction, propose to modern D&A technology to try and determine how Beethoven died once and for all. It's a good read.
*sigh* I have no self-control at meetups, and the fact that I snaffled this book is evidence of my addiction to adding to Mt TBR.
This looks really intriguing, though, and I'm looking forward to reading it!

I think this story of the 'investigation' into Beethoven's death and deafness by examining the clues to be found in a lock of his hair would be more suited to an extended magazine article than a whole book.
Although the topic was initially interesting, I found Martin tended to 'pad out' the story and at times became quite repetitive. I was actually much more interested in the story of the Hiller family (who took the lock of hair) than the forensic component of the story.
I'm heading out to Western Australia next week and will take this one with me to continue its travels!
PS - Hi Leith (and Meagan) Hope you're enjoying your OS travels!

You're not the only one with no self control Lynn . . . I say no books needed and still end up with three!
Still, three in and five out is a pretty good outcome. ;-)
And just lovely to meet you at last.
Not sure what will happen to this one, we'll see . . .

I can see this one will take a very long time to climb to the top of the pile, so deserves another journey and a new home.

Received this book today courtesy of my slightly perplexed postie who is always delivering multiple book parcels.
Anyway this has come my way courtesy of Bookmooch and I have to say this sounds like an intriguing story and I hope to read it soon and give my thoughts back here in the too distant future. Now I just have to find the ladder to put this on top of the tbr pile......phew!!
