I'm sorry it took me more than just a few days to read this book and to absorb all its beauty.

My favourite photographs are "It happened in November" (Kani Alavi, pg 70), "Caution" (Rodolfo Ricàlo, pg 50), "Test the Best" (Brigit Kinder, pg 52) and the painting on page 40 (Thierry Noir).

After reading this book, all I wish is to visit Berlin :)

Thanks Kagi!

I'll try to send it today to SirRoy, Dublin.

Thank you Kagi for sharing this with us. Truly amazing. What surprised me most for all the different nationalities who contributed. I too loved "Test the Best", primarily for it's humour. I also loved the picture on page 108/109 of the wall from two angles. Gives you an idea of how immense it is/was.

Have cwoods' address and will send this on tomorrow.

This arrived in the post a day or two ago, sorry for the delay in journalling. I have already had a flick through and am impressed by all the different styles and guessing at the meaning of some. Will give it more attention over the next week or so.

Thanks Kagi for sharing.

I had a really good look through and like most pics. I am writing this after I sent it off so I cannot recall the page number of the pic I like best. It was a picture of the wall separating and crwods of people flooding through.
I noticed that nearly all the artists were born after the end of World War 2 when the wall was put up.

This arrived yesterday and I have already been amazed by the quick thumb through I did. I have never been to Berlin, though have been to southern Germany quite a bit. NonBookCrossing mr czuk and elder brother (husband of TheSIL) are interested in looking at this, as is boyczuk. Since bumma (next ring participant) lives in the same household, is will be well read here, no doubt!

Journal Entry 19 by wingbummawing on Saturday, October 22, 2005
The colors and strength of the paintings is unbelievable, The Wall and what it signifiedin the world are amply porrtrayed. I'm glad part of it still stands to remind us of things we should never forget and to hope for the future always.

Journal Entry 20 by wingbookczukwing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA on Sunday, October 23, 2005
I am astonished at the variety of art and the versitility of the messages that were displayed in the book. I too, think the image of the piece of intact wall, spanning the corner at the gallery is very powerful. Mr czuk was amazed that so many of the artists were not from Germany and Elder Brother waxed poetic on his memories of JFK at the wall. Boyczuk, who was born the year the wall came down, pronounced the art "cool".

The book shall travel in tomorrow's mail, complete with a postcard from Charleston to add to the growing collection, on to morsecode. If I can find a second, interesting postcard, I'll put it in, as there have been so many of us reading it in this house! Thank you Kagi!

I've gotten in touch with fio-dagua so this book will start its trip to Portugal tomorrow.

What a wonderful book. The last time I was in Berlin was early 1997 so this book has really given me some things to think about.

Its hard to say which images were my favorites.
Here are a few that really jumped out at me (in no particular order):
Heaven and Seeker (Peter Russell), Test the Best (Birgit Kinder; also the front cover image), Soli Deo Gloria (Willi Berger), Berlin bei Nacht (Yvonne Onishke (Matzat)), and Thierry Noir's.
I also found the image of Paul Gerber's painting interesting. I love the text, Sag welche wunderbaren Traeumen halten meinen Sinn umfangen (Tell me what wonderful dreams hold my senses captive), but what struck me most was the cyclist riding by and how he seems like he could have been part of the painting.

great book! thanks for sharing =)
this is a subject that interests me a lot, this kind of urban art and intervention, as well as photographing it. and in this particular situation, it is even more meaningful, due to all the relevance this place has.

We showed this book to our friends too! Jettchen, who was born in East Berlin and used to live there for 30 years, was glad to see pictures from this monument: impressed and delighted about the fact, that even artists from Moscow got this chance to participate in painting the wall. (e. g. the one with the ancient discus as model)

We will send it home to Kagi in Berlin tomorrow. Thank you for this bookring.

Journal Entry 27 by Kagi from Hoppegarten, Brandenburg Germany on Tuesday, October 23, 2007
After it's 2-years-trip around the world the book arrived save and sound at home.
Thank you for all your journal entries.

Journal Entry 28 by Jettchen from Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg Germany on Tuesday, November 13, 2007
As written by my friend, Cortegiano, I was most impressed that some artists from former socialist countries got the chance to participate painting the wall. Now, I want to add the remarks of russian artist Irina Dubrowskaja (born in Moscow even in 1961) herself regarding the Title "The Wall must give way":

She said about her painting "My work depicts a falling meteorite, which symbolizes the overcoming of obstacles on the way to freedom. The motif of the classical discus from Testos was my way of stressing the importance of art in this process."
