The back cover blurb:

"When the glamorous Phryne Fisher, accompanied by Dot, decides to leave her delightfully fast, red Hispano-Suiza at home and travel to the country in the train, the last thing she expects is to have to use her trusty Beretta .32 to save their lives.

What was planned as a restful country sojourn turns into the stuff of nightmares: a young girl who can't remember anything, rumours of vile white slavery and the body of an old woman missing her emerald rings. And Phryne is at the centre, working through the clues to arrive at the incredible truth before another murder is comitted.

Fortunately, Phryne can still find a little time for a discreet dalliance and the delicious diversion of that rowing team of young men."

Journal Entry 5 by buggyhare from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Tuesday, July 26, 2005
Arrived today, thanks pinkozcat! I must say - this is the third bookring I have received from pinkozcat and her books are always so beautiful - not a dog-ear or bent spine in sight! I'll do my best to keep them in the immaculate condition I received them in!

Journal Entry 6 by buggyhare from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Wednesday, August 17, 2005
A fun and engaging read, although I thought it was quite obvious who the murderer was! Sounds like Phryne would be into bookcrossing:
'Giving things away is a good way of acquiring merit, and not too hard on the purse.' (p54)
I have Funkybamboozle's address, so will post it off to her today. Thanks for organising the ring, pinkozcat!

Journal Entry 7 by Funkybamboozle from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Monday, August 22, 2005
This arrived in the mail today. I keep receiving Phryne Fisher books, so I better read them quickly!!

Journal Entry 8 by Funkybamboozle from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Sunday, August 28, 2005
This is one of the better ones. I grew up near Ballarat and went to uni there for one year, so it was a little familiar in places. It was nice to find out how Phryne came to adopt the girls too...I just need to find out how Lin comes into the equation.

I am getting a little tired of ol' Phryne though. Why doesnt anything ever go REALLY wrong (murders aside)?

Ill PM the next reader for their address.

Absolutely loved it. Read it in 3 sittings yesterday. Was very cross when I had to stop to feed the family. Posted on this morning.

Good. Now I know how Jane & Ruth came into the story. Entertaining.

I'll post to Lisagt tomorrow.

Journal Entry 13 by Lisagt from Holsworthy, New South Wales Australia on Wednesday, September 14, 2005
Oh good, another Phryne and it's a fairly slim volume so that will help! I'm weighed down with bookrings at present...

Journal Entry 14 by Lisagt from Holsworthy, New South Wales Australia on Sunday, September 18, 2005
Just this minute finished! I enjoyed this more than Away with the Fairies - it seemed to have more substance although it's all a bit of a 'lark' for Phryne. She obviously has no financial worries and devoted servants and helpers to do her bidding - no wonder it always comes out right. Still a pleasant enough read for a Sunday afternoon thanks pinkozcat.
I'll be PMing Viola7 for her address.

On its way to Viola7.

I finally got around to reading this book and I must say that I enjoyed more than the other Phryne Fisher mystery I read recently.

This book was waiting for me in a HUGE pile of mail, when I returned from the 3rd Australian BC Convention. :) Hence my delay in journalling its arrival.

It was my first Phryne Fisher novel.
Whilst the murderer was dead easy to guess the charm of the book was the surrounding stories that linked to the murder. I do think that the author has put modern values on Phryne but this does not detract from the story. I also fount it unlikely that she would have solved all the mysteries and had time to find alover and adopt two children in the short time but like I said it is my first book, so I am finding out about the character. She is a find and I and going to delight in another of her books as soon as I wrestle it from my mother.

Part of the Phryne Fisher sereis of books, set in the 1920's in Melbourne. A nice Story. I look forward to reading another.
