From Library Journal
Vastly wealthy due to his inheritance of the Klingenschoen estate in Pickax City way up North, Jim Qwilleran now enjoys the eccentricities of life in Moose County. Series fans will know about his pampered pair of Siamese cats; Koko, the male, pushes various Shakespeare plays off the shelf in Qwilleran's library, presumably commenting on events that excite and scandalize the town: the "accidental" death of the newspaper publisher, the disastrous fire that destroys the office, etc. A comfortable, quaint diversion, with interesting character names, wry remarks about feline behavior, and a deus ex machina protagonist.

Journal Entry 4 by libertine101 from Perth City, Western Australia Australia on Saturday, May 16, 2009
I have been aiming, this year, to read my way through this series. Some of the books have been sitting on my shelves for way too long!
I am also trying to read them in order these days.
This one was a nice, light and easy read. Probably not enough cat involvement in it, compared to some other volumes though.

Thanks so much libertine101 for introducing me to The Cat Who... series. This will be the first one I read, as a former Shakespeare student. It's also the earliest in the series of those sent.
I had never heard of this series of books until I joined BookCrossing. How did I manage that? - since the author blurb inside the back cover says that Braun started writing them in the 60s!
Looking forward to it, one day soon I'll curl up with my moggie on my lap and meet Koko and Yum Yum.

Rating: 7.5
This was an entertaining read, slower paced than my favourite Stephanie Plum series, but very enjoyable. It took a little while to get going but once it did I was engrossed in the Pickax world. As a long term resident of various country towns, I liked the quirky characters. It was a little bit ‘Northern Exposure’-ish. And as a cat-owned person, I loved the personalities and antics of Koko and Yum Yum.
A good cosy read.

I'll be taking this to the April get-together for BXers & Friends at King O'Malley's pub in Canberra City, to see if I can entice someone to get hooked on the series too.

I picked this book up at our BookCrossing meet at King O'Malley's Pub in Civic, ACT. Thank you.

Released 12 yrs ago (5/29/2011 UTC) at Canberra Theatre Centre in Civic, Australian Capital Territory Australia

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I started to read this book but I was hoping for more cat activity. As far as I read in the book it was almost non-existent. I also disliked the writing style. The book was a disappointment, so much in fact that I dropped out of a Bookray for another of this author's books. But others have enjoyed this book, so don't let me dissuade anyone from reading it.

Released outside of the Canberra Theatre Centre. Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" is playing there. I watched people walking by the book and only one person stopped to examine it but they didn't take it. I hope it finds a reader soon.

This book is released for:
2011 Keep Them Moving Challenge
2011 Theme Releases
