Classic of Holocaust literature. Possibly the "one" Holocaust book you should read if you read a book about the Holocaust. This or "Hope is the Last to Die" if you want a female perspective. Available.

This was a great book. The Holocaust still captures me, and biographies like this are so unbelievable they almost seem fictional. This book was horrifying without the author going into explicit detail about the violence that occurred. Thanks for sharing, I will pass it on.

Received today, thank you so much! This is a book I've been wanting to read for quite some time now and I've heard great things about it. I can't wait until I can read this, although I'm taking some college classes right now so it might be awhile before I can get started.

Journal Entry 8 by sunshinedreem from Frederick, Maryland USA on Thursday, November 17, 2005
This book was great. I am fascinated by the Holocaust and the stories of survivors, and I can honestly say that this may be a tiny little book but the impact it leaves on you is huge. Of all the stories I've read I think this one will stay with me the longest because of the fear and emotion it carries to the reader. **spoiler warning** The part that got to me the most was when Elie's father was dying in the camp and he was so emotionally torn between helping his father to survive and surviving himself. You could really feel the desperation and the lack of understanding in this poor boy of fifteen years old being forced to chose between helping himself and helping his father. I couldn't image being faced with such decisions at that young age.

This was a necessary read. It is still always stunning to me what people will do to each other. Amazing that he survived. My niece is only 15 and I couldn't even imagine her having to survive this way. My hope is one day all human life will be valued and cherished.
