Not a bad story, however it could have been less verbose.
My criticisms of it are that it gave me the impression this is how time travel would be if designed by someone in humanities rather than science. More professionalism needed to surround the time travel. An example: Warder was I believe a costume person. How then would she have the expertise to run the net? A book can still be funny, but be logical. The continuing talk around the point was annoying. Too much rambling. There was too much referencing other novels; I found this tedious and mostly irrelevant. Some of the characters sounded alike and would come out with similar words. The mystery man was Mr C. I kept wondering what the butler’s first name was, and if his surname was his real name? But Ned and Verity never asked this question. Instead they kept trying to find out the name of every irrelevant minor character that Tossie passed, even though those characters were so way below Tossie socially that she would never have looked at them twice.
Less than two hours till the consecration and Warder still has to iron all the choir clothes. How many in a choir? Twenty/thirty? And the author thinks it would be possible to iron the clothes in less than two hours, AND then get the clothes to the cathedral!
Most people in the future found religion irrelevant, hence the sell off of churches. So why would Ned and Verity consider having a ‘christening’ for any future child? I don’t believe a christening would ever enter their thoughts. Even today lots of children are no longer baptised.
What I did enjoy about the story was some of its humour. I liked the description of the war setting and the Victorian era. The first chapter with Ned’s ramblings when he was time-lagged I found very amusing and this drew me in. However the beginning of the book was the best bit.
I have Lisagt’s address and will post this soon.

Half comedy, half time travel, and half romance mixed with a few mysteries make this a truly different read. (I know it adds up to more than one, but this one has this much packed into it that it is hard define without going into all the nuances of this novel.) I'm glad to have participated in this on-going ring of this hilarious novel about searching for an ugly vase known as the bishop's bird stump. The chapter descriptions were a definite help in understanding the story.

This seasoned traveler arrived safely today here in Florida. Looks like he could use a rest! I've mended his broken spine, & he's now resting comfortably next to my desk.

Thanks for sharing! Looks like a fun read!

I haven't commented on the book yet because I'm only about 1/3 of the way through. I did lend it to a friend while I was finishing up some other reading, & she said she found it entertaining. In the meantime, I have found another copy, so I'll go ahead & release this one to his next reader, so as not to hold things up.

Thanks for sharing!

The book was put in the post to helena100 today!

I definitely enjoyed this, from the basic concept (if being a historian in 2057 turns out to actually be like this, I will be switching careers in 45 years) down to the details. The writing was extremely funny. I thought the first few chapters were kind of confusing at first, but on reflection I think it's intentional as our narrator is extremely disoriented in the beginning. Overall clever and entertaining.

Thanks, Chich, for sharing - I'm very glad I got to read this!
