What can I say about Mary (Wistful)? I've never met her in the flesh but have had lots of contact with her through Bookcrossing. She is a very busy and active lady!!!!! She invited me into her "exclusive" club and I joined willingly (haven't been playing there recently have we?)
I'm looking forward to meeting Mary at the Unconvention.

In the mean time have a happy birthday on 28th May.

Having never met the Wistful Dragon there is not much I can say here. However, my first and only Book Crossing experience so far was created by her and I thank her for including me.

Happy Birthday.

I feel like I should be writing a poem but, since it's not yet insomniacs time (and I don't do poetry very often) prose will have to do!

Although Mary's reputation has been sullied by BookCrossing she's still a loveable, warm and friendly person.

She's the first BCooker I sent a book to and certainly one of the maddest!

Seriously, Mary's come through a difficult year with flying colours and it's great to see her going from strength to strength.

Have a wonderful time on the 28th, Mary - I just hope your postman (and Luigi) can cope with it!

I really enjoyed reading Mary, what a wonderful lady from beginning to end. She has three fantastic children that really are a credit to her and she was certainly a high spot of the Unconvention 2004 for me! I can't wait to see her again this year. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on eyebrows, and other hairy situations!

Take care Mary and have a wonderful birthday!

Wonderful Wistfuldragon, what a delight it is to have the opportunity to trill ( ( (((HAPPY BIRTHDAY))) ) ) vibes your way, (as picture). You were one of the first bookcrosser’s I exchanged PM’s and books with and I will always remember being blown away with your generous book swaps when we were both in perilous financial straights. Many thanks for your welcome to bookcrossing and your big-hearted support. How can it be that we have not met yet? I look forward to rectifying that one day!

Thought I'd drop in and add my very best wishes for a wonderful birthday. Sorry, I haven't been around of late, but a wrist injury has kept me off the computer (have developed RSD). I do think about you often and wonder how you and the dragonets are keeping. Have a great and restful day, as befits a truly lovely lady.

I first met WistfulD at last year’s UnConvention in Birmingham, we both arrived at the hotel at the same time, Mary in full sail, her shoal of Dragonettes in tow. The abiding image was of a brave lady, travelling alone from London to meet up with a lot of strangers, challenging herself and convention – the captain of her own ship, to over-extend the metaphor ;-)

Mary has shared a lot over the last months, and, like a lot of the kindest hearts, can give too much of herself!

Have a great birthday Mary, I look forward to renewing our friendship at the event they are already calling the second UnConvention!?

Joining Bookcrossing has turned out to be one of the best things I ever did. I can only remember now that I came across it while looking at the Penguin Books/Publishing website - but don't ask me what I was looking for on there...

I've read a lot of books I'd never have read otherwise, genres I've never tried before, (now favourite) authors I'd never even heard of before.

But, the best thing I've gained from bookcrossing? Friendships. And one of the best, one of those closest to me now, is the friendship that Mary has given me.

I'd give up all my BC books tomorrow, if it meant I could stay friends with her forever.

Well, all of em except maybe my Spike Milligan books..... ;o)

What can I say about Mary that hasn't already been said? I can't say she's Quite Contrary. I can't say There's Something About her. I can't she Had a Little Lamb. I can't say she's a Wreck, Deare. I can't say I'm doing this For the Love of her. I can't talk about the House that she Bought. I can't say I'm Looking for her. I can't say she's Called Magdalene. I certainly can't call her Bloody (because that would be swearing) and I can't even sing A Song for her. They've all been said or done before.

So I'll just content myself with saying You're Unique and I wish you the best of happiness on your birthday.

(Hands up all those who thought I was going to comment on her Virginity - shame on you!)

Hello Mary! We haven't ever met but I expect if we put our minds to it we could connect with fewer than six degrees of separation. I notice you live very close to my old stomping ground from a few years back so there is a start. Plus you are are brilliant bookcrosser so there is another connection (although I am not in that league I do admit, having slacked off for a while now!) I really loved the wonderful dragon card you made and sent me once with a bookring and admire your creativity. I do have occasional bursts of creativity myself but must admit I usually recover quite quickly!

Have a terrific birthday Wistful Dragon and I hope you enjoy reading this interesting book!

Happy birthday Mary! Ooh, I love surprises - I do hope you'll be pleased!

I have had the privilege both of having dealings with WistfulDragon in cyberspace and actually meeting the flesh and blod Mary at various London get-togethers.

Mary has glossy black hair and rosy cheeks but as our mothers always said (okay mine didn't but a mythical mother might), 'beauty is as beauty does'. Fortunately, Mary is warm, generous, kind, funny, good-humoured, smart and capable. She also has good taste in books, having RABCK-ed me once with two Ursula Le Guin books (one of my favourite authors).

I have also met the three Dragonettes, who are all quite lovely. I'm not sure if that's genetics or upbringing, but either way it's a credit to their mother.

Happy Birthday Mary from the far distant shores of...Birmingham!

I haven't known you long but I am proud to have been at your first Tuesday meetup and you are one of those few souls I have really connected with - I look forward to a long and happy friendship.

Your poems are brilliant
You are the only person I actually know who has famous bosoms (I have the same tshirt as you now and was going to post a pic of mine in it, but thought better of it)
Your book releasing exploits are legendary and something to look up to
You are the only BCer I know to have less books than they started with due to the brave rule of passing on ALL of yours!
Your children are a credit to you
You are a wise and kind friend
You managed to get Matth3w bookcrossing when I failed

Hope you have a lovely Birthday, we will raise a toast to you at our Birmingham BC meetup on the day!

With love,

Definitely one for the PC! The reader is swept along by stories of furtive forays in Ann Summers, secret dealings with the luscious Luigi, and telephone titillations concerning black rubber dresses. In addition, he meets the Muse of Midnight and Beyond and a brave mother dragon, who struck out for a better life for herself and her three Dragonets and daily grows stronger and surer in herself. All this and more has been enjoyed by the BC friends of Wistful Dragon. So join me all and one in wishing her the happiest of birthdays leading into a year of fulfilment and happiness.

Thanks to Jalna, I now know how to put piccies into journal entries, so my dragon can say Hi to you!

Dear Mary,

Our whole household, including Sir Pfalstaff, and the bunnies Nik, Billie, Pluto, Fiver and Bumper, not to forget the dog Dusty, would like to wish you a very happy Birthday! As far as your future is concerned, may all your wishes come true, and if you don't manage to get your hands of a treasure (those known to be hidden in dragons' places!), and become a Lady with a castle, at least I wish you to stay in top health, and be your cheerful self as I have known you to be. You are a huge source of inspiration for many, me included, ever since that extensively chatty micro-meet we had in Croydon two years ago. That was lovely and too bad I never found the time to repeat the experience!

To cut this short (before my breakfast coffee gets too cold!), again "tanti auguri a te" and all the very best,

**Birthdayhugs**

Gabriella

The Image: Literary Dragon (draco bookus wyrmus)

Found in libraries and book stores all over, this quiet dragon is happiest when perusing books of any type - fiction or non. He can usually be seen reading (naturally), and is quick to shush any actions that disturb his reading.

And Now For Something Much Along The Same Lines ....

Nostrildamus Predicts -

Those in the world with the nose for a good person will sniff you out, because that's exactly what you are. The Bogie Man will avoid you because you are too nice to pick and he sincerely hopes the only candles you have are on your cake. If you are thinking of going out for a snifter, don't get snotty and have a snortful, wear a wallet and smell like a million quid! Oh blow Snoopy and his gang, inhale sharply and beat the gang to the bar by a snout!

All the best, Mary, hope you have a lovely day!

Thanks for recommending this Spikey, we couldn't have Orang-ed it better ourselves! Cover to cover, this book is a great read ;)

Wishing you a great Birthday :))))

Kriptlin turned around and made a small well in the cushion on the chair and settled into it, coiling his beautiful gold tipped tail around him and finally resting his nose upon that.

He dozed, fitfully, with one eye slightly open and his slender pink tongue lolling out of the side of his mouth. His dreams were of little streams full of shiny pebbles glittering in the sun and brightly coloured mayflies dancing over the sparkling water. Every now and then, he snuffled lightly, swallowed and licked the end of his nose while his tail tip flicked absently and with a will of it's own.

His heart was light, his cushion was warm and his dreams trailed him off and away over the shires, playing with marshmallow clouds and small children and butterflies.

A few hours later, a large, matronly dragon entered the sitting room and nuzzled him awake.

'I'm home,' she said tenderly, 'Is there anything you would like?'

'Can we visit Mary?' he replied.

We do not fear the dragon's flame
For he grows wistful at her name.

Wistful our precious Dragon. Happy Birthday. You are a fabulous bookcrosser and a wonderful caring human being. It's been an inspiration to watch you rebuild your life with the dragonettes over the past few months.

Hope you have a wonderful birthday, now where did I put your address?

You're such a fab person, Mary. And a great mum too. Your three Dragonettes are a credit to you - delightful and well behaved kids I enjoyed chatting to at the Unconvention last year. A very happy birthday indeed to my absolute favorite Borg!

Mary, you were the first person on BookCrossing to offer me a RABCK. I don't even remember what it was for - some post in the forum that you found funny, I think.

On the face of it, your offer was only for an Arthur C Clarke paperback. But it showed me how much more there was to BookCrossing than just releasing books and waiting for the catches to come in. It showed me how much fun it could be to 'ambush' others with gifts - expected or not. Remember the sugar-free sweets that you surprised me with when you found out that I'm diabetic? Since then, using Cliff's Wish List site, I've surprised several other BCers with books that they didn't expect. I've also sent some really fun non-book surprises.

I was thrilled to receive that Clarke book that you sent me. I'm even more thrilled to be able to spread that kind of happiness to others. So, in a way, dear, you've become the gift that keeps on giving.

Maybe there's something to BookCrossing 'karma' after all...

Happiest of birthdays to you!
- Bill

Oh - and Spike: this was a fantastic idea! After reading the other entries, though, I take issue with your description of this as a 'false book'. It may very well be one of the truest that I've ever seen.

Wistful, I've met some dragons in my time but never before one on such a scale as you. Welsh dragons, pah! Chinese dragons, pah! Pern dragons, pah! Wistful you may be, but you have strength, a fire, a majesty none of these could ever hope to match (even if you are bit competitive!).

Mrs Mischief and myself wish the very best of birthdays to one of the very best of friends.

Happy Birthday WistfulDragon!

I can't believe it's only been little more over a year since we first started exchanging emails! Since then, we've developed the kind of friendship that doesn't happen often in life - you understand me completely, offer me sympathy and understanding when I need it, pick me up when I'm down, lend me a shoulder to cry on and congratulate me on life's ups.
A truer friend I couldn't wish for. You've heaped books, feathers (slightly worried about this one!), various cuddly creatures and chocolates on me amongst other things, and despite being unable to read your handwritten notes, I know there is lots of love behind the ink.

Have an absolutely fantastic birthday, with everything you wish for (yes, even that!!)

Can't wait to give you birthday bumps hugs next Wednesday!

Happy Birthday, Mary!

Peter in Canberra here, releasing a few birthday balloons, just as the winter chill arrives down under and the merry buds of May bloom in the dear old Stamford Arms up over.

May your birthday be full of joy from start to finish.

I treasure those all too brief hours spent with BookCrossers in London, and particularly the family gathering with a happy mix of Books, Bookcrossers, Babies, jelly-Beans, Beer, Books and junior BookCrossers, all adding a cheerful sweetness to the occasion.

And in the middle of the tumult stands WistfulDragon, freeing all the best books, conducting several conversations at one time, supervising the delightful Dragonets, and doing her best to welcome a stranger back to the auld country.

I am so very proud to be a part of this birthday book and while I wish I could give you a big birthday hug from the far side of the world, you will have to accept a virtual one instead!

I have the Honour to be,
Ma'am
your Devoted servant
