I read many of the Danny Dunn books as a young girl and I believe this was written after I was an adult. It will be a good way for me to research authors I remember liking for my own writing.

Just finished reading Danny Dunn and the Voice from Space. I liked it as it leaves wonder about what or who may be "out there." But I found things that made me stop and realize how long ago it was written. Let's see... Ah... yes... 1967. That explains that while all the families of the main characters got to go to England, the women didn't get involved in the scientific research but chose to go shopping. What!!! I would have pushed the kids aside to go and be involved.

And I don't think kids with that much enjoyment of the sciences would have risked taking an animal with them. Nor would they have stayed quiet at play in England when there was so much to see. We didn't even get to see what Joe thought of Shakespeare's birth place. And rarely is Irene, the female friend, bringing up interesting thoughts and she is a future scientist, also. But maybe she gets to be more assertive in other books. I need to allow, I suppose, that this is called Danny Dunn!

Sorry I couldn't have given this book higher ratings. But it would have been even less had the WONDER not been inplanted in the book.

I will release this at the next bookcrossing meeting.
