"In my first memory, I am three years old, and I am trying to kill my sister. Sometimes, the recollection is so clear I can remember the itch of the pillowcase under my hand, the sharp point of her nose pressing into my palm...
Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and injections to help her sister, Kate, fight leukaemia. Anna was born for this purpose, her parents tell her, which is why they love her even more.
But now she can't help but wonder what her life would be like if it weren't tied to her sister's... and so she makes a decision that for most, at any age, would be too difficult to bear, and sues her parents for the rights to her own body."

10 out of 10

It’s been a while since I’ve given a full 10 out of 10 to a book. I had heard people talk about Jodi Picoult at BC for a while now, and was curious about her, but after I’ve read this I can’t wait to get my hands on her other novels.

My Sister’s Keeper is one of those stories in which is very easy for the writer to fall into clichés and melodrama, but the author skimmed right through it in an deeply engaging way. The result? A true page-turner, and one of those books that resulted in several discussions at the dinner table in my family.

It's one of the best books of the year so far.

10 out of 10

Definitely one of the best surprises this year :-) Thanks a lot Virgulina for introducing me to this wonderful author ;-)
As far as I can tell, Jodi Picoult's books always deal with controversial issues, and this one is is probably one of the most dramatic ... there is no right or wrong, no good or bad decisions, but Anna's right over her own body is unquestionable. For most of the book we never really understand Anna's true motives for doing what she does, because it's clear she loves her sister more than anything, but when the truth is revealed it packs quite a punch. I didn't liked the ending, though, it somehow tied all the loose ends quite neatly but I couldn't help but feel that it was so unexpected and unfair...

And now I'm off to amazon and eBay to look for more of Ms Picoult's novels ;-)

7 out of 10

If you enjoyed "Party of Five" or "Once and Again" you will like this book. I've enjoyed reading it but I find it just a bit soppy. Yes, it brought me to tears several times... My favourite character was Jesse and I am sorry that there weren't more chapters about him. There was this hilarious scene that made me laugh out loud: when he has to help that sheep in labour. Incredibly funny the way he tells that story! I also didn't like the ending (even though it was unpredictable, which I consider to be a good thing) but I can understand the writer's logic. What has moved more in this story was the relationship between brothers and how it almost saves them. Thanks again, Virgulina.

6 out of 10

I was the one who got everyone addicted to Jodi Picoult and most of them started off by reading this book. When I took it with me on vacation I was really excited as everyone seemed to love it and all the others I read by her were fantastic. I don't know if I was expecting too much but the story just seemed kind of pointless. It started out well enough and I was on Anna's side, but then she started to appear too indecisive and when near the end she revealed why she was doing what she was doing, it was a little too mellow for my liking. The book lacked mystery and none of the characters were interesting enough and why was Jesse's story cut short? I mean you learn he's a pyromaniac and then there's no explanation or closure. And even the main story had a rushed ending, this author usually ends her books controversially, but this one was too neat and too unexpected. Where did that come from? I was sorry for Anna and I did cry a little but just because she was the only character that I liked and in my honest opinion her sister Kate really didn't deserve that kidney. I'm off to read other Jodi Picoult's books in hopes that they are better than this one! ;o)

8 out of 10

Finished it Friday night!
I had never read anything about this author and I've became a fan...
I've finished the book crying my eyes out!

Nevertheless, I agree with Virgulina... How about Jesse? His story simply stops in the middle... and the ending of the main story is a little rushed!

Virgulina, thanks for this opportunity!
