Journal Entry 2 by potok-fan from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Finland on Monday, October 03, 2005
I found this at an official bookcrossing zone in A Coruña, Spain, and left a book of Spanish poetry in exchange. I would love to know about a similar scheme to write books in Finnish using a simplified vocabulary... but so far I haven't heard of any.

Journal Entry 3 by potok-fan from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi Finland on Saturday, October 08, 2005
When I found this book I thought the topic would be familiar, since I had read so much in the news about Hurricane Katrina. But the story told in the book is very different. I think the story is interesting enough to make someone want to finish reading it. It is a good book for someone who wants to practice and improve their English (it is a special version of the story, written with a limited vocabulary, and it has a glossary in the back). But if your English is good enough to read regular books, this book is not for you. This simplified version is frustrating because there isn’t enough detail, especially for the parts of the story which are not central to the main plot. ’It’s so wonderful up in these mountains,’ said Julie softly. ‘I was hoping you would bring me up here again.’ ‘Is that why you came back to San Fernandez?’ asked Wyatt quietly. He looked quickly at Julie, but she seemed very interested in the mountains. Wyatt decided to be brave. He put his arms around Julie, and said, ‘How would you like to live up here? And marry me?’ But I still think it is an excellent thing to write books like this for learners of English. I wish I knew of some books like this in Finnish!
