Since I am an avid watcher of CSI I found this book very interesting.

I definetly learned things I never knew. I love reading books where I can learn something from what I have read without it being a total bore.

When I first heard about The Body Farm on CSI I thought at first it was something made up for the program, but found out it is an actual place. This book tells of how this place got started and things they have learned from there.

I do say if you don't like descripive details you had better not read this book.

I just received the book in mail just a few minutes from JustJen. :) I can't wait to start it.

Journal Entry 3 by transglobal from Arlington, Texas USA on Sunday, July 24, 2005
I really enjoyed reading this book. I can't believe I'm done with it. It was really interesting, I even had my mother along for the ride. We're really big fans of crime related shows (CSI, Cold Case, etc...), so it was nice to pick something up that wasn't from a television show. It was kind of cool to see back stories about crimes I've seen on special interest documentaries.

I'll PM the next in line when I'm ready to send it off. Thanks so much for letting me be apart of this bookring.

Very interesting book. I have called for the information on donating one's body to the cause. I thought the author liked to talk a lot about his accomplishments and pat himself on the back a lot and there was some repition but overall it was an interesting read.

Mailing to sarradee today, 08-29-05

Journal Entry 7 by sarradee from Mansfield, Texas USA on Wednesday, August 31, 2005
Arrived today. Looks extremely interesting. I have to finish up the book I'm reading, but should be able to get to this one before the end of the week.

I've always been interested in forensic science, and I love reading books like this where I can learn something new. I'd heard of The Body Farm before, I didn't know that Pat Cornwell was instrumental in naming it that though.

This book was a fascinating, if extremely graphic, read. I finished it in a day and a half because I just couldn't stop the pages from turning. I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in learning what happens physically after death, as well as anyone who likes CSI, Pat Cornwell's books, Kathy Reichs books, or Quincy.

Will mail out to the next on the list tomorrow or Monday.

More a biography of Bass and his achievements than an introduction to forensics, but funny and not too gory. I especially appreciated Bass's exploration of the case of Roy Brent Marsh and the Tri-State Crematory, which I remember when it was a ghastly newspaper headline. Will mail Tuesday 9/20/05.

Journal Entry 15 by 1stlite from Forsyth, Montana USA on Sunday, May 14, 2006
I found this completely fascinating. It intrigues me to learn how they came up with the experiments to find the answers that help with cases today. It was also interesting to see how many experts came out of the teachings and experiments that were done at the Body Farm.

I apologize for holding this up. Will PM for the next address and get this back on its way.

Thanks for sharing.

Journal Entry 17 by booklady2005 from Spanaway, Washington USA on Thursday, June 1, 2006
Ooops! Arrived the other day guess I forgot to log it in! I'm about half way through it and so far so good. Pretty darn interesting!

Journal Entry 18 by booklady2005 from Spanaway, Washington USA on Tuesday, June 20, 2006
This was an utterly facinating book! I'm a huge fan of the CSI crime shows and this shed a very large light on the subject. It is a pretty graphic book, he doesn't hold anything back in his crime scene descriptions or when it comes to describing the experiments at the Body Farm. So if you're a bit squemish don't read this book. I must say though that Mr.Bass is very big on patting himself on the back! I got a bit tired of hearing about how he pioneered some of the leading forensic practices or how some of his students are some of the leading forensic experts in the country. He also got a bit repetitive, after the first couple chapters I knew that pelvic bones and the base of the skull can help determine sex and sometimes race of a victim, yet he still insisted on going over the informatio again in each chapter where it was relavent. There was a good bit of humor as well which made the grusomeness of the book easier to digest. I would have killed him myself if I was his first wife! There is no way I'd let my husband (scientest or not) use my kitchen stove to boil up bones!

Sorry for the delay, book is in the mail today.

Received this book from Booklady - Will start it very soon - one book ahead of it. I am also a CSI fan, but I usually have to close my eyes when they start dissecting the bodies. I hope I can get past any really gruesome details!

Journal Entry 20 by cisco from El Granada, California USA on Saturday, August 5, 2006

Journal Entry 21 by cisco from El Granada, California USA on Sunday, August 13, 2006
Absolutely fascinating! Thanks so much for sharing this inside look. I am another of the legions of CSI fans, and recognized some of the cases in this book from that show.

Will send to fungirl503 when I have the postal info!

I got this book in the mail yesterday when I was running out the door for work. I have already started to read some of the book at work. I love these kinds of books, because one day I am going to go back to school and be a patholgist helper. Thankyou for letting me part of this book ring.

Journal Entry 23 by fungirl503 from Gladstone, Oregon USA on Wednesday, September 20, 2006
I really enjoy this book alot. what I learn was just by the size of the pelivc bone shows to be a man or a woman. also skulls can tell the sex too, teeth can tell what race a person is some times.
I always knew about the body farm and thought it would be neat to vist one to see the whole progress. But it can't be for some one who has a weak stomache.
I am going to go back to school to do some thing like this..it has been a dream for since the past three years.
This book does tell alot about how Bill Bass and his achievements.
The one case I do remember he talks about is the case of Tri-State Crematory.
I am going to PM the next person and get an address so I can mail this book. Thankyou for letting me be apart of this wonderful book.

This wasn't quite what I'd expected from the title, more of a biography than focusing just on The Body Farm, but very interesting nonetheless. It was fascinating to read about forensics from an anthropological angle and great that so many cases were used. I found it a tad repetitive on some facts though!

Thanks for letting me read this JustJen, I'm pming dodau now and will post as soon as I get their address.

Arrived safely today.

I have a couple of other bookrings before I can read it.

Journal Entry 32 by amberC from Darwin, Northern Territory Australia on Tuesday, February 13, 2007
An interesting book. I too love CSI and forensic crime shows. This was more an autobiography of Bill Bass than about the body farm. I would have enjoyed more about the body farm and the research they did.

I did get a bit tired of the same information about the difference betwen male and female skeletons being repeated every couple of chapters.

Posting to woosang tomorrow.
