TBR

Having recently devoured and enjoyed My Sister's Keeper I have decided to try other Jodi Picoult books. I picked this one up in my favourite second-hand bookshop.

From the back of the book:
"The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes Lancaster County to its core. But the police investigation leads to more shocking disclosure: circumstantial evidence suggests that eigtheen-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish woman believed to be the newborn's mother, took the child's life..."

I enjoyed this one even more than My Sister's Keeper. It has a great set of characters and the plot whizzed along and kept me enthralled. The insights into the Amish way of life were fascinating and although I guessed what had happened more or less halfway through the book, there was still enough doubt to my head to make the ending an 'a-ha' moment.

The only thing I didn't like was the switching between Ellie as narrator and a third person narrator. I don't think it added anything to my understanding of Ellie or her situation and Ellie's "voice" was virtually indistinguishable from nearly everyone except maybe Samuel.

Nevertheless I am now hooked on Jodi Picoult. I love the fact that her fiction always addresses controversial issues and deals with them sympathetically, making you think twice about your preconceived ideas. While still making entertaining reading.

What a brilliant book! The storyline was gripping and all the details about the Amish way of life were fascinating.
This book is now being reserved for a bookexchange.

Many thanks for my exchange book Teachie!! It is a good choice of book, but I have read it (which is ok, as it's one less for my bookshelf LOL). Here's my original je for it....

----------------------------------
Well, I'm sure that this book will be in my top 10 reads of 2006 (even though it's only January LOL). I have read The Pact, and My Sisters Keeper by JP, and have found this one to be my favourite - I got too upset reading My sisters keeper!!

Like others have mentioned, I loved the peep into the life of an Amish community, and I warmed to the characters quickly. I also like the way that Ellies personal life was included in the story - and loved who she ended up with!
-------------------------------------------------------------------

I will make sure this goes to a good home, as it's a great book!
