absolute classic of lesbian fiction.
Molly Bolt is born a 'bastard' and adopted by a poor couple in the South. She grows up different and not at all apologetic!
On the back cover is a quote by Donna Shalala, then Chancellor of the U of Wisconsin, "Molly Bolt is a genuine descendant - genuine female descendant - of Huckleberry Finn. And Rita Mae Brown is, like Mark Twain, a serious writer who gets her messages across through laughter." Oh sure, Donna, we believe you're straight!

it's been years since i read this. I forgot how sad it really is. Molly has such a cruddy life, though she is so positive and strong....
HAD to put this into the LGBT bookbox. Was holding onto it for that very purpose...
Taken from the LGBT bookbox.
Brown’s Rubyfruit Jungle chronicles the coming of age of Molly Bolt, self-proclaimed nonconformist, especially in the areas of gender roles and sexuality. The protagonist’s humor is brassy, genuine, and at times, quite vulgar. If I were a lesbian, I’d want to be just like Molly. Not butch, not femme—just Molly.
The book is both sad and hilarious at different moments, but very easy to read, and enjoyable. Several people have recommended this book to me in the past, and this copy has sat on my shelf for some time. I thought I’d give the book a try, and it was well, well worth the effort. Thanks for sharing through the LGBT book box!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
Dropped this off after having lunch, on a table near the front. I'll admit that this was an unusual release spot, a restaurant with "chick' in the name (Chick-fil-a), considering that the book's protagonist was such a staunch feminist. However, one of the workers, perhaps the manager, who was wearing a very pink shirt, expressed interest in what I was reading. I figured, it was as good a place as any for release. I hope she'll pick it up!
