Picked up for a dollar at Target. I don't know anything about Dashiell Hammett but this looks interesting. It's on my TBR pile.
In the time that this book has been sitting around on Mt. TBR, I have actually read The Maltese Falcon, so at least I knew a bit more about the subject of this memoir.
I found this book to be quite good. It's a very straightforward collection of Jo Hammett's memories of her father. Jo was the younger of Hammett's two daughters. She does a beautiful job describing her father, "warts and all." The book is also filled with family photos documenting the memories described. It covers Hammett's entire life and presents a portrait of an intelligent, loving, if somewhat erratic, parent. Clearly Jo sees both her parents as flawed and human but loves them and appreciates the struggles they faced.
