A deliciously dark book. The story moves backwards and forwards in time and coincidences and themes are reiterated in chilling macabre ways. Much of the story is told by Nick Dyer, a follower of Sir Christopher Wren and a satanist whose churches are secret temples of darkness. Most of Dyer's story is told in the vernacular of the time. This takes a little bit to getting used to, but the effort is very well rewarded.
