Simply wonderful collection of comic strips about the employees of a public library - much book-type humor here! See samples at the web site, Unshelved.com.

To be journaled. Along with about thirty other books. I'm soooo far behind!

[Update: I picked up another copy of Unshelved so this one's releasable. My keeper copy is signed by the authors, with a sketch of Dewey and "Read responsibly!" I got it - with autographs - by pre-ordering the set of all three Dewey books, including What Would Dewey Do? and the newest collection, Library Mascot Cage Match.]

Later still (April 2006): I'm in my hotel room in Toronto for the BookCrossing convention, and am still trying to catch up on reviews for some of the books I brought! Lots of chuckles in this one, from the viewpoint of a book-lover, a library afficionado, and a gamer-geek as well: Includes issues like whether or not (and how) libraries should limit access to questionable materials ("Okay, Internet filtering software doesn't always work. Maybe leaving this up to computers is the wrong approach. This is a job for librarians! Get Colleen - we'll filter the Internet ourselves!" "You want personally to review TWO BILLION web pages? Although without those Britney Spears sites there are a lot fewer." "'Buns of Steel'?" "That's a keeper."); there are tidbits about specific books, as in the strip recommending Christopher Moore's Lamb to a young guy looking for a book set in Biblical times: "[Lamb] asks the question, 'What if Christ had an obnoxious childhood pal?'" As the young guy's friend is busily demonstrating obnoxiousness ("HOTTY ALERT!!!") he notes "I think I can relate to that..."

And the librarians have their own methods of recreation, as in the strip where Dewey, in a suit and bowler, is waving a furled umbrella around, and baffling the other librarians - until he admits he's prepping for an "Avengers" convention! [Yes, it's geeky. I love it!]

I picked this up from the big book tables in the University Room at the Marriott Hotel in Toronto during the 2006 Bookcrossing Convention on April 21, 2006. I took it back to my room and happily read it before I went to bed. The next morning I brought it back to the University Room for the next bookcrosser to find it. I loved it!

I love this strip and was so excited to hear that it was available at the convention. Once I am done reading it, I am going to release it at school where I am enrolled in the Information Science Department - Library Science back in the day! (Sorry for slow motion on journalling - I keep finding books from the convention stashed in various bags!)

I caught the book during a library science course at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. A fellow class member was very involved in bookcrossing.com and described the process to me. Bookcrossing.com sounded interesting to me so I thought I'd give it a try. In the meantime I've been extremely busy moving to a new city and hopefully a new job. I will be releasing the book soon, when I find the perfect location!

I released this book in early August at Brookdale Library in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. I chose this location because I was hoping a librarian would get their hands on it. I'm not sure that this particular book would hold much interest outside the library profession! Great book though!

I picked this book up at the Blue Hanger for .50. Blue Hanger is the Goodwill Store of Last Resort. All the overrun and rejects from the other stores end up here and if it is not purchased in a day or two, it is out to the dumpsters.
The book is still in great condition, I enjoyed it and I will look for a good release spot to send it on its way.
