Being married to a pilot has taught Kathryn Lyons to be ready for emergencies, but nothing has prepared her for the late-night knock on her door and the news of her husband's fatal crash. As Kathryn struggles through her grief, she is forced to confront disturbing rumours about the man she loved and the life that she took for granted. Torn between her impulse to protect her husband's memory and her desire to know the truth, Kathryn sets off to find out if she ever really knew the man who was her husband. In her determination to test the truth of her marriage, she faces shocking revelations about the secrets a man can keep and the actions a woman is willing to take.

An interesting book, although I did guess some of what was going to happen.

I saw this book twice on a table on cafeteria table on board Le Bretagne , ferry sailing from Portsmouth to St Malo. The second time the label caught my eyes and I turned back to pick up the book, read the label, the summary and decided it looked like a book I might enjoy reading and leave somewhere. As I travel a lot for my work, I also read a lot.
I started reading on the boat last night. I enjoy the detailed nature of the descriptions (emotions and sceneries), the vocabulary used and the images it brings up. The plot starts showing itself now and I look forward to finishing. I am french and read quite a few english written books. I had never heard od Anita Shreve, and I definetely like , enjoy her style.
