Journal Entry 2 by woosang from Picton, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, April 12, 2005
Picked up at Canberra meetup. I shall peruse this book and decide if it is one I will read or re-release at another meetup.. Synopsis Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate -- a life and a role that she has never challenged...until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister -- and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves. My Sister's Keeper examines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child's life, even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Is it worth trying to discover who you really are, if that quest makes you like yourself less? Should you follow your own heart, or let others lead you? Once again, in My Sister's Keeper, Jodi Picoult tackles a controversial real-life subject with grace, wisdom, and sensitivity

Personally delivered to my door by woosang! Wow! I feel special...I am looking forward to reading this book. Jodi Picoult is a very honest writer who always deals with controversial subject matter. I remember the author referring to this title in her talk for the Sydney Writer's Festival, saying how she wanted to write a different ending but really there was no other way to end the book. Many people are unhappy about it. What do I think? I'll let you know when I've read the book too!!!

Absolutely engrossing! Jodi Picoult is a great storyteller. Her characters have so much depth you can't help but be caught up in their story and this is one of her finest. I could sympathise with each member of the Fitzgerald family - each had a different perspective on their unusual family situation and acted accordingly. As a mother, I wondered how I would act if this was my family, my children... As always there was a twist at the end , this time heart-wrenching. Still, I highly recommend this book!

My husband didn't realise I had this book and he bought me a copy (autographed even!) so now THIS copy can be FREE again! My assistant at work made a backcover for it so it's a bit more hardy now. I'm lending it to another friend at work to read and then I'll decide what's next for this great read! ~ funny that we both ended up with two copies of this book woosang!

Journal Entry 21 by boreal from Dunedin, Otago New Zealand on Monday, May 08, 2006
Finished this afternoon -wasn't that quick!! One of those books that you read and think to yourself, what would I do in their shoes, Jodi Picoult is a master of books like this. The characters were all great, I loved how the book was told from their different perspectives. I was interested to read about Campbells service dog -I didn't know they had service dogs for that particular ailiment (I don't want to give too much away here). I knew right from the start that their would probably be a sad ending to this book, but it was a surprise all the same. This I would say is one of the authors better books. As I am last on the list I shall await further instructions, I can see if anyone else wants to sign up for the ray if you like.

Journal Entry 24 by dsc from Chester, Cheshire United Kingdom on Monday, July 03, 2006
This was my first Jodi Picoult and I thought it was great. It is not normally the sort of book I would read, I thought it would be a bit "girly" for me, but I was wrong. The story was so real. The characters were very engaging and the way JP writes is amazing, she really makes you think about things. One quote I specifically remember is "Your kids outgrow you long before you outgrow them." There are many gems like this throughout the book. I kind of spoiled the ending for myself by accidently seeing the last page whilst looking to see how many pages long the book was, but even though I knew ultimately what was coming I didn't really know how, and I still needed my tissues at the end. Not many books affect me this way which shows how good it was to get me so emotionally involved. The ray will continue with the following participants: BabyFlylady - uk mellowdaisy - uk Jaynereader – uk, anywhere Iojima – France, no pref The last person can then decide the book's fate from there........

Journal Entry 27 by BabyFlylady from Driffield, East Yorkshire United Kingdom on Saturday, July 22, 2006
OMG! I have just finished reading this book today - having read 200 pages today alone. I loved it but have to admit to a feeling of being grateful it wasn't me the whole way through. I loved the narrative and the way the story was told from everyone's point of view. It made it easy to understand what a tangled web of emotions lay behind Anna's decisions. I disagree with what I read somewhere that they felt the storyline regarding Campbell and Julia was uneccessary. I think it was fundamental in explaining his drive to get involved in the first place. I also think I might have a secret hankering to be Julia ;-) "And I am lonely Campbell......Why do you think that I had to learn to act so independant? I also get mad too quickly, and I hog the covers, and my second toe is longer than my big one. My hair has it's own zip code. Plus I get certifiably crazy when I have PMS. You don't love someone because they are perfect. You love them in spite of the fact that they are not" Be prepared to cry - a lot!
