I finished this today. My apologies for the delay, but I had some life issues that were pulling me away from reading for a bit. I started this book on a cross country airplane flight, and it was perfect for that.

Ultimately, I give this book a "medium" review. I found it interesting, and kept continuing to read it, but it never truly hooked me. Also, I found way too many parallels with Lord of the Rings and the Anne McCaffrey series. The relationship between Saphira and Eragon is too similar to the Pern books, especially Jaxom/Ruth (even with the male rider, female dragon) and names, descriptions, etc., reminded me of LOTR. I found it very distracting. I ultimately felt there just wasn't much spark or originality to it. I applaud the author, in that he was 15 when the book was originally published in its first form. That is a very fine acheivement for him. However, I don't quite get what all the fuss is over it. It's not bad...I just don't find it to be good or revolutionary in any way. I did like Brom very much, and his relationship with Eragon is intersting. I would like to know more about him. I feel much of his story is still to be revealed.

Also, this book, like LOTR, isn't truly completed. It leaves you in the middle of the story. I don't like that--yet I'm not sure if I have enough interest to keep reading the other books when they come out. Maybe via bookring or paperback, but I wouldn't pay full dollar for it.

BBL, thanks for picking up this book and reviving the ring. I will be passing it on asap. It's good to have the ring moving again.
