This book was thought provoking, and really makes a connection between the social status of women, their gendered identity in society and their relationship with food, fat and love.

From back cover
"Fat is not about food. Fat is about protection, sex, mothering, strength, assertion and love. Fat is a response to the way you are seen by your husband, your mother, your bos--and yourself. You can change that response by learning the difference between "mouth hunger" and "stomach hnger", by seeing weight loss as a good thing rather than a punishment, and by realizing that food is not your enemy. Author Orbach says most women respond to her new program by maintaining or even gaining weight at first, as they learn to accept and like themselves. That's okay. And that's just the beginning of this astonishingly effective new approach to weight loss through satisfaction."

Will release this onto the Toblerone bear for my NSSSSS (for Spike!)
The bear has spikes - geddit! Plus I think the chocolate connection provides an interesting backdrop for the book...

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

This book was released for Spike1972 for his NSSSSS (the BCUK Not so secret Summer Solstice Surprise). Given Spike's screen name, I thought this Toblerone sponsored bear (called "Spitzbueb" literally "Pointy Boy") was the right one to look after "fat is a feminist issue". A little bit of chocolate in moderation does us all good :-) I sent Spike Lindt chocolate, but it should have been toblerone (didn't fit in the envelope though, spikes kept sticking out!!)
