Good in Bed

Cannie Shapiro, our heroine, is funny and believeable (even if some of the things that happen to her aren't *either*), with the requisite lovable doggie, imperfect family and wobbly love-life. She's also a 'Larger Woman'...a bit of a rarity in this kind of chick-lit where the usual protaganists are either ditsy twiggy long-legs looking for love to start out with, or wind up twiggy long-legs, ditsy or otherwise, by the end of the novel - usually wrapped in the arms of the one true love who's been staring them in the face from page forty onwards.
There are a few 'too neat' twists in here that you can see coming a mile off, but in the interview at the end Jennifer Weiner admits that it's basically wish-fulfillment in a book, and I did get a lot of enjoyment out of seeing Cannie get what she wanted (although there was a little voice in the back of my mind saying, 'too good to be true!')
Also, was it just me, or is Maxi Ryder patently modelled on a very famous English actress? Think about that name for a minute...;O)
All in all, though, a fun read and deceptively well-written, too, for a book I expected to me a tad fluffy, I was very pleasantly surprised. :O)

I have finally got around to reading a back from my TBR pile, after so many "hard to say no "to bookrings. This was an enjoyable fun read. But as lucycat says, events in it are very far fetched, although this doesn't detract from the feel good factor. It makes a wonderful change to have a book based on a larger sized lady than on the usual skinny knock-out beanpole.

Not bad at all!
At first I thought it was going to be one of those painful chick-lit reads... but half way through I actually found myself really getting into the character. She's not the neurotic Bridget Jones type that I was expecting that's for sure! A really enjoyable read - with a plot that doesn't cause too many headaches, although half way through it does take a darker slant!! The ending was very sweet and I was quite sad to have finished it... now... there's praise for you!!!
I'll be leaving the book on the train into London Paddington tomorrow morning. Hopefully somebody will actually catch the book and it won't cause a security alert!!!
