Journal Entry 4 by guinaveve from Mason, Ohio USA on Thursday, September 29, 2005
I must admit when I started this, I didn't think I would like it. I guess because, it was not what I was anticipating. I thought it was going to be like the author's other 2 books I have read- Running With Scissors and Dry. Those where autobiographical, but this was strictly fiction. I quickly got hooked on the story though, it was so fun in a sarcastic manner that I can completely appreciate. I was a little disturbed by the relationship in between the husband and the babysitter. I just can't find the humor in it. I am not giving anything away that isn't on the back cover.
Anyway, the story focused on several people who worked for a Home Shopping Network type channel called Sellevision. The characters were quirky and funny, the storyline was unpredictable, and I was caught up in the story which can be difficult with a book that is meant to be a quick, fun read. It was just that though and still very engaging.

I have started a bookray for this book. All participants, please PM the next participant on the list for their address when you recieve the book. That way you have the address ready when it is time to send the book off after completing. If you haven't recieved a PM from that person by the time you finish (at least a week) skip them, and I will move that BCer to the bottom of the list. Please move the book on in a month as requested when you signed up to participate in this ray. I can bump you down the list if you let me know that it is not a good time recieve this book. Once I see that one of my ray's are nearing the end of the current participant list, I usually try to find other interested participants.
Thanks and enjoy!

Just received this in the mail today - can't wait to read it!

Journal Entry 8 by silverstarry from Berkeley, California USA on Saturday, October 15, 2005
I knew I would like this book as soon as I read the first page about a home shopping network host accidentally exposing his penis during a Toys for Tots segment. Like guinaveve, my previous experience with Augusten Burroughs was with his memoirs (Running with Scissors and Magical Thinking), both of which I enjoyed, but I wasn't sure what to expect from his novel. It was smart and funny and so engrossing that I finished it in one sitting. This book has so many great aspects - office politics, new friendships, adult relationships, and the humorous details (Moisture Whik Control Panties!). From Max (the penis exposer) to Bebe (the top host at Sellevision who shops a little bit too much) and Leigh (the new host having an affair with the head of Sellevision), the characters are entertaining and engaging.

Thanks so much to guinaveve for sharing this book!

Journal Entry 11 by BigBird2002 from Mesa, Arizona USA on Wednesday, November 2, 2005
This was a GREAT book! I really enjoyed the characters and the little details the author provided. I was also disturbed by the relationship between the father and the babysitter, but fortunately it was easy to overlook. I loved that we got to see what happened to each of the characters in the end of the book. This will be heading off to Jare ASAP.

Journal Entry 12 by wingjarewing from New Port Richey, Florida USA on Monday, November 21, 2005
This arrived safe and sound today. I have one other book in front of it, and I'll get to this quite soon!

Journal Entry 14 by guinaveve from Mason, Ohio USA on Friday, January 6, 2006
I received a PM from Jare stating he could not get hold of becca-mo via PM for her address. I PMed back that Jare should PM Badgoat for her/his address and go ahead and send it on. I don't know if that PM from me was received, so I am journalling here to let Jare know that he should skip becca-mo and go on to Badgoat. Thanks! Hope everyone has found the book interesting so far.

Journal Entry 18 by sarahbear from St Helens, Tasmania Australia on Wednesday, July 19, 2006
Arrived safely and soundly yesterday. I am so pleased..have been waiting for ages to read this. I am a huge Augusten fan. I even signed up to his newsletter cause he signs them "Love Augusten"...lol How sad is that!

Journal Entry 19 by sarahbear from St Helens, Tasmania Australia on Wednesday, August 9, 2006
I quite liked the story but too me there were too many interesting characters. I much prefer the books about Augusten though..there is something about reading about dysfunctional lives that makes your own seem more bearable.

Thanks for sharing. Will be mailing on as soon as I have an address.

Journal Entry 20 by leeess from Geelong, Victoria Australia on Sunday, August 13, 2006

I really enjoyed this. It was an easy, quick read.
However, he could have developed some of the characters and situations more...but still quite fun enough.
Will be sending it as soon as I get an address, (sorry, didn't see the instruction to get an address first!)
Cheers,
leeess

Welcome to the troubled world of Sellevision, America's premier retail broadcasting network. When Max Andrews, the much-loved and handsome (lonely and gay) host of Slumber Party Sundown, accidentally exposes himself in front of 60 million kids and their parents during a Toys for Tots segiment, Sellevision faces its first big scandal. As Max fails to find a job in television, another host, the popular and perky Peggy Jean Smythe, is receiving sinister e-mails about her appearance from a stalker. Popping pills and drinking heavyily, she fails to notice that her husband is spending a lot of time with the young babysitter who lives next door. Then there's Leigh, whose affair with Sellevision boss Howard Toast is going nowhere until she exposes him on air, and Bebe, Sellevision's star host, who finds Mr. Right through the internet if she can just stop her shopping addiction from taking over.

This book was sooo funny!! I loved it!

This book got to me not too long ago in the middle of my NaNoWriMo month and so it must wait till the end of the month to be read and passed on. It looks like an easy read and I am greatful to be part of this ray.

I caught this book in the mail today! Thanks for sending it my way kontessarose. I will start it right away!

Journal Entry 28 by Bibliocrates from Pueblo, Colorado USA on Monday, February 19, 2007
I really liked this book! It was gravely funny, and just what I needed at the moment. All of the characters were flawed. I felt so sorry for poor Peggy Jean! The affair between Nikki and John Smythe was totally disgusting. Also, I'm convinced Bebe and Eliot were in fact related, nasty! I'm glad Trish got what she deserved in the end.

Thank you for sharing this book guinaveve. I will pass it on to Karenlea shortly, as classicfox asked to be skipped.

Journal Entry 30 by Karenlea from Glendale, California USA on Wednesday, February 28, 2007
Caught!!! I have one rather lengthy ring (700 pages left) ahead of it...but I hope to start this soon. I am a fast reader!!!

Journal Entry 31 by Karenlea from Glendale, California USA on Sunday, March 11, 2007
Such a fun book. It reminded me of Armistead Maupin's "Tales of the City" series. The same type of quirky characters with a soap opera feel. This book came to me at the perfect time, I have been clobbered with school and work commitments...this was a nice change of pace. I needed a light read.

I will be mailing it off to the next reader on Friday, maybe sooner if I can squeeze in a post office run. A huge thank you to Guinaveve for sharing a fun book.

Journal Entry 32 by thegoaliegirl from Vancouver, Washington USA on Monday, March 26, 2007
The book arrived over the weekend. Plan on starting it right away. Thanks for including me in this!

Journal Entry 33 by thegoaliegirl from Vancouver, Washington USA on Friday, March 30, 2007
Finished this book last night. It was one of those books that you just can't put down. I have to admit, I was disturbed by the husband and babysitter. Thought Zoe was someone else, but oh well. Was happy that Tish got what she deserved in the end. I really wasn't sure what I was going to think, as I was more expecting it to be like Running with Scissors. I was hooked. What can I say.

Book went off in the mail today to rootmartin. Hope it gets there early next week! (Sent media mail, so here's hoping!)

Journal Entry 34 by rootmartin from Wellesley, Massachusetts USA on Friday, April 6, 2007

Journal Entry 35 by rootmartin from Wellesley, Massachusetts USA on Monday, April 30, 2007
Sorry that I'm a bit late in making this journal entry. I have a newborn who has thrown off my schedule a bit. I finished this book up last week and mailed it to sudokugirl last Wednesday.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as I found it quite light-hearted. Thank you for sharing this and for starting this bookring!

Hi everyone! Just a note to inform that I will be slow in moving the book as I’m have a few books in queue! Hope you don’t mind!

06/08/07
It was very enjoyable! And it's light and easy. Now returing to guinaveve.
Never knew one who could be so obsessed with her hairs! And twist is about Zoe is great, I like this style of suspense, a tinge difference from those fiction/thriller suspense.
Now returning to guinaveve.

Journal Entry 39 by guinaveve from Mason, Ohio USA on Thursday, August 16, 2007
Hooray, a successful ring/ray! Now that it has been read by so many BookCrossers and traveled so extensively, I intend to release it in the wild for someone else to enjoy. For these well-traveled books, I like to make a note inside the cover of all the places the book has been hoping it will encourage the finder to log on and check out BookCrossing or at least this particular book.

OK, so the release wasn't exactly wild, but guinaveve did pass the book along. And as soon as I read it, I will "wild" release as soon as possible. Thanks!

Journal Entry 42 by algoan from Beech Grove, Indiana USA on Monday, February 1, 2010
Just over two years later, I finally got around to reading this book. It was a funny, quick read. A nice light story in between two other heavier books I'm working my way through. Due to the more adult nature of this one, I'll probably not truly "wild" release, but rather hope someone has it on their wishlist and go that route. :)
