Product Description:
Max has just returned from the Peace Corps and is crashing with pediatrician Harrison. Dealing with her return to Western civilization, her long-divorced parents dating again and the feelings she is trying not to develop for the dashing doctor may just drive her crazy. Then again, if he reciprocates . . .

Robin relishes her job as an executive sous-chef in a trendy restaurant almost as much as she savors her friendship with its owner, Michael. But Robin knows she wants much more. So how do you make someone who knows you so well look at you with fresh eyes?

Then, artsy Lilith. When she and her boyfriend realize they've been getting more sleep than sex, they agree to "see other people," which turns into quite a nightmare.

Lastly there are sisters Riv and Anne. Between them, they've got enough secrets to keep anyone awake at night.

I chose this trade paperback from Flakes's Chick-Lit Bookbox because Red Dress Ink is my favorite chicklit imprint, and because I loved Stacey Ballis's Inappropriate Men. ISBN 037389516x.

From Booklist
Ballis follows her debut, Inappropriate Men [2004], with this tale of five friends searching for love and purpose in Chicago. Everything is blissful at first for the five thirtysomethings, who are all balancing new love interests. Fresh from a stint in the Peace Corps in Kenya, Jess is staying with her cousin's friend, Harrison, a sexy doctor, until she can find a place of her own, and she's finding the handsome physician irresistible. Robin is nursing a crush on her good friend and boss, Michael, while Lilith is carrying a torch for a friendly but married actor. Shy Anne has won her dream guy, while her sister Beth has reconnected with an old college rival, who turns out to provide an enticing romantic diversion. Inevitably, bumps in the road appear as Ballis presents a refreshingly realistic approach to relationships and the things that test (and often break) them. Ballis' sophomore effort will please readers who want something more than fairy-tale romance.

From the back cover
When is a sleepover appropriate?

A. When you have insomnia and you call your close friend… who also happens to be your handsome boss?
B. When you're at a wedding and forced to share tight quarters with a good-looking groomsman?
C. When sex is not an issue, and you just want a good spoon?
D. When you're with your best friends to talk about A, B and C?

Thirty-something Chicagoans Jess, Anne, Beth, Lilith and Robin sure don't know the answer (well, they can all agree on D, as long as gourmet junk food is within arm's reach), but they're more than willing to lose sleep trying to figure it out.

In Sleeping Over — part Sex and the City, part Little Women — Stacey Ballis examines relationships both romantic and platonic (and platonic wanting to be romantic) while keenly observing the various consequences of spending the night together.

The result will keep you up reading all night!

8 out of 10

A fun, fast read. I liked how the narrator changed for each chapter, giving the reader various perspectives on the characters and events. However, the last handful of chapters were full of typos -- some really egregious. Did they stop paying the proofreader halfway through?
