These cassettes are not only written but als read by Nick Hornby! I quite liked them although I'm not very interested in soccer. :-)

Somewhat interesting but I found myself tuning out from time to time.

I'm going to offer this one to Cougmax when we meet up to exchange books this week.

Alsgal is so kind! Bringing me a gift off my cliff list! You rock!
I was looking for Fever Pitch for the husband, he is a rabid European football fan to rival anything we see over here in the states with football or baseball! During World Cup qualifying matches, nothing can get in his way! We pay a ton of cash for an extra soccer channel from Europe on cable. Yeah, its bad...
Anyway, this should be a fun treat to listen to this together.
Thanks!

Ok Patti, so the husband will not listen to an audiobook...
I gave it a chance today and not my favorite. I found myself tuning out as well. It's just that soccer is so not my thing.

Off to find another listener on relay

Abridged. Read by the author on two cassette tapes; approximately 3 hours. HarperCollins 1993; ISBN 000104771x. Received in the mail (extremely well packaged) from cougmax in Federal Way, Washington, USA, for the Audiobooks relay. I liked this book (and both the movies) and I've enjoyed listening to Nick Hornby read on This American Life, so I look forward to listening to this audiobook. (It's perfect for doing cardio at the gym, as each side is about 45 minutes.)

From the packaging
This is a book about identity, belonging, obsession. About afternoons in the driving rain and bitter cold and glorious, unforgettable goals; getting your head read in Hampstead and punched at Highbury; the dazzling skills of the gods of football and leaving your girlfriend lying fainted on the terraces because Arsenal are about to score. It's about the moments of ecstasy in one man's life. And his pain. And it's about the only true question there is: Which comes first, Football or Life?
