***NOTE***

While I am a writer who writes long when the spirit, and the subject, moves him you, dear fellow Journaler, aren't required to put in anything but the bare minimum ( Where Caught, where re-released, or whatever other fate you have in store for the book, even a brief review ) ...BUT longer is permissible, and encouraged, IF you are so moved to do so by my own such entries.

***END NOTE***

This book is a HARDCOVER W/JACKET!

His friends & fans simply call him Duke.

More than 20 yrs. after his death he is still coming in 1st or 2nd in polls askings Americans who their favorite actor is.

Why is this?

Come on, he's dead already!

Beginning in 1930 with THE BIG TRAIL & ending in 1976 with THE SHOOTIST, DUKE has been bigger than life, a symbol to the world of the ruggedness, tough independence, personal conviction, & courage that make up the American character.

I love him not just because he was a great actor, but because he played roles that showed us an America to be proud of. He was the type of guy you wouldn't mind sitting with in a bar for a few drinks &, definitely, you'd love him at your back in a fight!

The authors of this book tell you everything you need to know to understand & appreciate John Wayne the way I & millions the world over do.

This meticulously researched, & well thought out story of the life of DUKE is a must. From his childhood to his college years, from his first job in Hollywood thru the incredible career he led as an actor, from one marriage to the next & his political views & activism all the way thru to his battle with the Big C this book is a gold mine.

An added plus are the extensive notes & bibliography sections & a complete chronological Filmography.

You will never look at John Wayne, the actor & the man, in the same way ever again.

Until I was forced to sell the collection, over 2 years ago, I had almost all of the Duke's Films on Video.

He is my favorite American Actor of all time.

Released 19 yrs ago (4/16/2005 UTC) at Upper Newport BackBay So: Mud Flat Bird Info Spot in Newport Beach, California USA

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

A THEMED RELEASE!

An Actor visits the venue for Newport Film Festival Environmental Films.

Did you know that the Upper Newport Ecological Reserve's Peter & Mary Muth Interpretive Center ( http://www.newportbay.org )was this place?

Me neither, but that's neither here, nor there, because the Center is NOT where I dropped the Duke off. :-D

There is a wonderful biking/walking trail that extends almost all the way around the Bay, and at various spots along the way, especially on the south side, there are informational stations, some mounted on stone markers, and some mounted in other ways.

It was at one of these that I left this book, in its bag. :-D

This is my favorite local cycling place, but today I walked the 6+ miles around it for the 1st time. ( took me 2 hrs.! )

On such a clear, warm, day it is a pleasure to walk, or bike, in this area secluded from the outside world by surrounding hills.

The silence broken only by the sounds of nature, the voices of your fellows, occasionally encountered on the path, or passing in the rare car, or the occasional airplanes on their way to, and from, John Wayne Airport.

Calm, and peaceful, doesn't even begin to cover it.

Anyway, I started walking along Back Bay Dr. from the west side at Jamboree Blvd., and headed east to Eastbluff Rd. before heading around to the north side of the Bay.

I dropped the book off at the base of a stone marker that had a plaque that talked about some of the birds that call the Mud Flats home:

The Willet, the Black-necked Stilt, the American Avocet, the Dowitcher, and the Long-billed Curlew.

( Click on Photo to enlarge! )

As for how to find the book if you are so inclined to go looking:

The spot can be easily seen if you are looking, and is 3.419 miles from the west side, and 0.804 miles from the east side.

That is all the help you will get from me. :-D

Chances are good that the book may be there for several days, if not longer, so if you are a Hunter of Released Books give it a shot, and take in nature at the same time. :-D

Oh, BTW, I should warn you, the natives ( animal, not people ) are a peculiar lot as this story of an encounter of mine explains:

MURDER MOST FOWL!: An encounter with 3 Mallard Ducks, a dead rabbit, and 3 crows.

Journal Entry 3 by sgoasa from Irvine, California USA on Friday, May 13, 2005
While enjoying the wonderful pleasures of the Back Bay, this book is what I found.

Very ironic that I would find it, and I hope to pass it along (after I enjoy the reading..ha..ha).
