A Times leader calls for the dismantling of the monarchy, and a week later it comes to pass. A Republican government wins the election in 1992, and overnight the royal family is stripped of its regal underpinnings and dispatched by the new prime minister...to live on a hellhole council estate in the Midlands.

Thanks for the book and bookmark! I read this a long time ago and fancied reading it again as it was a funny tale.

I read this ages ago and decided to revisit it after reading the follow up, 'Queen Camilla'. It was as funny as I remember and I can actually imagine the Queen behaving like this! I'd forgotten how lame the end is though and I annoyingly can't remember how Sue Townsend resolves it in 'Queen Camilla'. I shall wild release this.

I was visiting Barrington Court, a National Trust property with my husband, and we sat down on a bench to take in the sights, and I noticed a book sitting there all alone. Being nosy I picked it up and realised it was not lost! I really liked Adrian Mole, so I though I would give this a try. Unfortunately due to work I have not had time to read it yet, but am going on holiday to Spain in a couple of weeks, so shall take it there and drop it off.

I first read this book many years ago when I was a student, and recently, my daughter brought it over to Mallorca, where we now live, for me to read again. I enjoyed it, but found it rather dated and did not like the ending. I will leave this book here after its journey abroad and it will be picked up by someone new so
