This is the extraordinary life of an ordinary man. It is the story of Albert Facey, who lived with simple honesty, compassion and courage. A parentless boy who started work at eight on the rough West Australian frontier, survived the gore of Gallipoli, the loss of his farm in the Depression, the death of his son in World War II and that of his beloved wife after sixty devoted years - yet felt that his life was fortunate.
Extraordinary, and familiar - it reminds me of some of my grandfather's reminiscences from his young life: grinding poverty, fruit picking & rabbit hunting just to feed the family, camping in the most inhospitable of climates, changing jobs & locations to make ends meet. I guess it all depends on how you look at it, whether you see it as a fortunate, or unfortunate, life. The Aussie battler that my grandfather was would, I think, agree with A. B. Facey.

I'm looking forward to reading this one - thankyou!
Enjoyed this book and the author's positive take on life through his many hardships. I think this would be a great book for young people to read for the social history.
