From Booklist
For five East Coast teenagers, the mid-1970s were a time of fun, fury, angst, and a willingness to stoop to a multitude of humiliating antics to get noticed by their favorite band, the Bay City Rollers. Sullivan, now living in London and a rock critic for the Guardian, reveals all about her time as a "special fan" of the Scottish bubble-gum group. Barely hanging onto clerical jobs, she and her friends, the Tacky Tartan Tarts, sojourn anywhere, anyhow, to get near their idols. Sullivan relies heavily on her daily diaries; unfortunately, neither the diaries nor the author's memory nor, apparently, her editor can be trusted for details. If you don't mind reading that Caroline traveled to Chicago to hear the Bay City Rollers play in Wrigley Field, home of the White Sox, then this frolicking, nostalgic memoir will be a silly, campy treat, sort of a G-rated version of Pamela Des Barres' legendarily raunchy I'm with the Band.

From Library Journal
Sullivan, a noted rock critic for the London Guardian, bares a side of herself that most rock journalists wouldn't dare: she was a fan of the 1970s Scottish pop quintet the Bay City Rollers of "Saturday Night" fame. First published in England in 1999 to riotous acclaim, her account of adolescent infatuation provides a glimpse into the actions of 21st-century fanatics of boy bands like the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync. From procuring the Rollers's cigarette butts to calling the band members' mothers, Sullivan bravely lays out in print the embarrassing moments of growing up we can all relate to--and most of us try to forget. More like a pop culture diary than an informative history of the band and "Rollermania," Bye Bye Baby is fun but more often tedious. All the same, rock star Courtney Love bought the film rights and is set to direct. Recommended for larger public libraries.

Reads more like chicklit than music crit. I suspect that Caroline's "very own Roller" was Derek, the drummer (pictured far left).

I remember singing "Ess aye tee you are, dee aye why, night!" on the schoolbus when I was six or seven.

Saturday Night
The Bay City Rollers
written by Bill Martin and Phil Coulter

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y night!
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y night!
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y night!
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y night!

Gonna keep on dancin' to the rock and roll,
On Saturday night, Saturday night.
Dancin' to the rhythm in our heart and soul,
On Saturday night, Saturday night.
I-I-I-I-I just can't wait,
I-I-I-I got a date.

*At the good ol' rock 'n' roll road show, I gotta go,
Saturday night,
Saturday night.
Gonna rock it up, roll it up, do it all, have a ball,
Saturday night,
Saturday night.
It's just a Saturday night.
It's just a Saturday night.
It's just a Saturday night.

Gonna dance with my baby till the night is through,
On Saturday night, Saturday night.
Tell her all the little things I'm gonna do,
On Saturday night, Saturday night.
I-I-I-I love her so,
I-I-I I'm gonna let her know.

*repeat

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y night!
S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y night!
It's just a Saturday night.
It's just a Saturday night.
IT's just a Saturday night.
It's just a Saturday night.

(repeat and fade)
