Journal Entry 1 by BananaForce from Minneapolis, Minnesota USA on Friday, March 18, 2005
In the first chapter of this haunting novel, 14-year-old Susie Salmon looks down from heaven and describers the horrifying events of her murder. As times goes on, Susie continues her curious observations while her family struggles to cope with the pain of her death. Her younger sister grows tougher and more mature, her mother goes to desperate lengths to ease the suffering, and her father begins a perilous quest to bring the killer to justice. Suspenseful, daring, and even humorous in just the right dose, The Lovely Bones is utterly original and unforgettable tale. It transcends one family's overwhelming grief to deliver an astonishing vision of hope and love. 7 audio cassette tapes (11.5 hours)

A very interesting listen. I was amazed at how something so horrific could be told so beautifully. This doesn't mean it is all easy to listen to. Some parts are very difficult to listen to. This story has all the emotions packed into it.

I don't often give a book a rating of "10" - but this is it! The ways in which the author treats such a macabre subject (the murder of a 14 year old girl by a sexual predator) is so surprising and moving and offers such an interesting note of hope, I found myself weeping. Do I want to hang on to this audiotape forever? YES - but I'll make it available in the spirit of bookcrossing.
