A classic.
So the 2nd Mrs Maxim de Winter remembered the chilling events that led her down the turning drive past the beeches, white and naked, to the isolated gray stone manse on the windswept Cornish coast. With a husband she barely knew, the young bride arrived at the immense estate only to be inexorably drawn into the life of his 1st wife, the beautiful Rebecca, dead but never forgotten... her suite of rooms, never touched, her clothes ready to be worn, her servan - the sinister Mrs. Danvers - still loyal. and as an eerie presentiment of evil tightened around her heart, the 2nd wife began her search for the real fate of the 1st wife for the secrets of Manderley:)

I loved re-reading this 10 years after I last read it. I'd forgotten more of the ending than I realised so the suspense really built.
The book starts quite slowly but the tension really builds up.

I've caught this at today's Nottingham meetup. I got a copy of this novel just last week for myself, in a charity shop, as I have never read it, and had already made plans to pass it on to a fellow BCer who has this on her wish list. However, now that I've this copy as well, she won't need to wait for long to receive her copy...it's going to be a Christmas surprise arriving earlier :)
What do they say about the best laid plans? It was supposed to be mailed before Christmas, but a mix of busy work life and other things forced the book with me for a little bit longer. I then learned that my "victim" was going to celebrate her 21st birthday in April from her aunt Weebly, so this is going in the mail today as a belated birthday present... Enjoy!
Thanks very much yowlyy! :) A very much appreciated birthday/easter present. It has been on my wish list for ages as part of my aim to read the BBC Big Read Top 100. Unfortunately may take a while for me to get round to reading it, but I promise I will read it eventually! :s
Didn't take as long as I thought to get round to reading this, since I decided that because everyone is telling me to read it, I should do so before I go on my year abroad - I'm glad I did, because it's brilliant! :) I was really drawn into the suspense and thought it built up really well. It's surprising how such a simple idea (husband marries 2nd wife, having not forgotten first one) can be built into such a good thriller :) I will release this at the Unconvention on Saturday. There is sure to be someone there who has not read it! :)
Picked up at uncon. I was named Rebecca after my mum read this whilst pregnant with me.
