Journal Entry 1 by Tribefan from Lakemore, Ohio USA on Friday, March 18, 2005
Members of the Bundren family must take the body of Addie, matriarch of the family, to the town where Addie wanted to be buried. Along the way, we listen to each of the members on the macabre pilgrimage, while Faulkner heaps upon them various flavors of disaster.

I remember attempting to read this at the beginning of high school, but I abandoned it for one reason or another. I've always meant to go back to it though; thank you very much for giving me the chance to do so.

Journal Entry 4 by k00kaburra from San Jose, California USA on Thursday, April 06, 2006
Gosh, I just don't know. On the one hand, I really liked the format and the idea behind the book. I love that there were many different narrators of a single series of events, and that each narrator had a very distinctive communication style. But I couldn't actually get into the story. I don't know if I just found Faulkner's writing too laborious or if it was simply a lack of interest in the characters, but this book was just out of my head. Several times I wanted to put it down and not pick it up again - but I forced myself to finish it, something I'm not so sure I'll do in the future.

I loved this book! I loved the way the characters were developed through both their own perspectives and the perspectives of others. The story itself was a morbid comedy - Vardaman's reaction to his mom's death, the family's well-intentioned but woefully uneducated use of cement, the irony of how the most sane character gets... well, I won't ruin it for future readers. All of the Bundren family were illogical and so very human. I understood them. It was sweet, sad, and funny. Thank you, k00kaburra, for sharing! I have rooshill's address and will send it on it's way soon.

Got it in the mail last night. It's going on the priority pile with the other rings I've been bombarded with recently. LOL! At least I've got the bulk of my work reading out of the way for a while, and can "work" on BC stuff.

My first Faulkner read.... it was a great book, but hard to read at first until you get used to his style. In the end, I enjoyed reading the story through each individual's eyes.

Journal Entry 15 by Amykinofallkins from Scarsdale, New York USA on Thursday, July 13, 2006
although Faulkner may be dense, he isn't verbose, so I'm glad to be the temporary owner of this great little book. (It's actually not that little, not as little as Turn of the Screw by Henry James or Candide or Flatland, but it's littler than a lot of the other books on my shelf.)
